"phil called and told me you didnt show up" anne spat, slapping a few packets of sugar between her fingers to ease her frustrations.

eddie looked up from his coffee. "who?"

"dr. shenkar, the chiropractor i busted my ass to get you to see!" she hollered.

the man stirred his drink anxiously, mind boggled with thoughts and comments from his symbiotic other. "so you're on a first name basis, huh..." eddie took a sip of the black liquid, only to shudder when the heat bit bat at his tongue.

"that's not the fucking point! ugh, what is going on with you? you haven't even texted to me in, like, a week, and now i finally get you here for coffee and you're still in your head!" she poured another little packet into her coffee, hoping the aimless task would soothe her fury.

eddie didn't know what to say. he did care immensely for anne and wanted to keep her safe, but this wasn't a matter of urgency. this was a matter of getting shish-kebabed by an alien life form on a daily basis, and frankly, really fucking liking it.

his thoughts didn't go unheard, however, and venoms slippery tendrils started to encompass his thighs, lovingly pressing at his tender skin. "y—yeah, uh.." he mumbled, "i just have, y'know, a lot going on." anne was shooting daggers at him, and all he could do was fixate on the scalding hot coffee he was unfortunately going to have to drink to avoid getting caught in her gaze.

anne threw down every distraction at her disposal. "edward charles allan brock, you need to tell me what's going on or ill get dan to stick you and you're little buddy back into that damn mri scanner" she threatened.

eddies eyes widened. "w—what are you talking about?? there's no buddy here," he looked around the diner wildly, "see, just me, and im definitely not your buddy."

anne shook her head, dumbfounded at eddies poor excuses. "do you think im stupid? you barely even pay attention to me when im around" she sighed. the woman took hold of her coffee mug once more, rolling her eyes as she took a sip. "i mean, shit, i said i was a terrorist a few minutes ago to see if you were paying attention and i bet you don't even remember that" her anger faltered, and she continued drinking the overly-sweet concoction with a defeated expression.

eddie sat beside her, tuning out every little piece of advice vee had to offer. he could extended his hand to place on top of annes, earning her stare upon making contact. however, neither one of them pulled away from the gesture. "listen, anne, things are just getting really complicated with him and i wouldn't even know how i would begin to explain—"

"oh c'mon, are you serious? i saw you nearly eat a police officer and then i put you in my car," she snickered at herself, "thanks for ruining the seats by the way."

"i—ill pay you back for that, sorry..." his voice trailed off.

"eddie, that's not the goddamn point" she reddened, clearly as discombobulated as eddies brain.

the man sat, hand atop annes, debating what his next words would be. if he outright said what he so desperately wanted to blurt out, he could lose the woman as a friend, and after losing her as his wife that was not a risk he was willing to take. despite the very serious internal dialogue occurring within him, his other expanded the mass around his back, eddie almost moaning as they eased all the tensions stored within his muscles, but it continued on throughout his body. from his shoulders to his wrists, venom made his presence known. it wasn't until the strands made their way to annes fingers as well that she let out a shriek and jerked back harshly.
