Medusa, a winged beautiful creature, was one out of three sisters. Medusa was mortal while her sisters were immortal.

At a time Medusa was considered to be one of the most beautiful women in Ancient Greece. She was also a priestess to the goddess of war, Athena.

Medusa needed to remain a virgin in order to stay devoted to the goddess.
The reason why her followers needed to be untouched is so they could pour all their energies into serving Athena without worrying about their husbands or children.

One day Medusa catches Poseidon's, god of the sea, eye while walking along the sea. Instead of honoring the fact that Medusa took a vow of chastity Poseidon wanted to have sex with her.

Medusa knowing this, ran back to Athena hoping to get protected. There was no protection. Poseidon proceeded to rape Medusa.

Some say Athena did not help because see was jealous of Medusa's beauty.

Now that she was raped, she can no longer serve Athena. After what happened Athena cursed Medusa. The painful transformation cures turned her into the Medusa we know today. Snakes for hair and a snake body to come with it.

Was was also banished into isolation to live the rest of her days.
