Sedna was a young woman, with a father who was constantly trying to marry her off but everythome she said no. She kept rejecting the multiple suitors.
One day, a sea bird promised to take her away to his "comfortable, luxurious" home. The impulsive young girl went with the bird but the "comfortable, luxurious" home turned out to be a horrible, filthy, smelly nest. To make matters worse, her new husband treated her like a slave.
Because of this horrible treatment, Sedna begged her father to come and take her back home. After a while her father agreed to take her back.
As they headed across the waters, a flock of sea birds surrounded the boat. By flapping their wings they caused a story horrific storm to arise. Their small boat was tossed from side to side.
Sedna's father fearing for his own life threw Sedna into the ocean to please the angry birds. When Sedna tried to climb back into the boat, he cut off her fingers.
As she tried and struggled to use her mutilated hands to get on the boat, he cut her hands off and threw her and her appendages back into the water.
As she sank to the bottom of the ocean, her dismembered limbs went off and grew into fish, seals, whales, and all of the other sea mammals.
