Other than Thor Odin had another son with his wife Frigg, which was Baldur. Baldur was liked by all the gods, except Loki.
One night, Baldur had terrible dreams about his death, so his mom started to get worried. She then went to everyone and anything in existence, including inanimate objects. She made them all take an oath not to harm Baldur. Because of the oaths Baldur became invincible.
The gods used his invincibility to make a game, by throwing random weapons and objects at Baldur, then laughing as they harmlessly bounced off.
Loki, however, didn't like the spotlight Baldur was getting. He managed to find out that there was one thing Frigg hadgotten on the oath, which was the plant called mistletoe.
Right away, Loki made a spear out of mistletoe, and waited until the gods started to play their weapon-throwing game again.
When they stated, Loki approached a god, and handed him the spear and talked him into throwing it. The god, thinking that it was harmless, throws the spear at Baldur and Baldur fell down, dead. The gods were stunned and horrified at what they have done.
