School seemed to be dragging on the longer the day went on. Soon enough, the lunch bell chimed and Keith headed out of his chemistry class towards the cafeteria. Stepping through the double doors, he nearly ran into someone he told himself he'd rather not see. It appeared that the other was thinking the same.

"Katie."

"Keith."

The two shared a cold gaze for a second before the smaller of the two brushed past the other. Keith huffed a short-lived sigh and continued to make his way into the cafeteria. Once he'd made his way through the food line and found a table, he looked around, unable to spot the person he was searching for. He frowned a bit and decided he'd wait a bit before inquiring.

A good ten minutes passed and he decided it was time. Pulling out his phone, he opened Lance's contact and began to type.

Me: Lance? Where are you?

Lance: Rolo wanted to talk

Me: About?

Lance: Stuff

Lance: Nothing you need to worry about

Me: You know, that's exactly

the type of saying that will

make me worry

Lance: don't worry. See you after school

Just now

Me: You'd better not be high

Just now

Me: You hear me?

Me: You're better than this, Lance

Just now

Keith shoved his phone in his pocket and finished off his lunch before heading back down the hall for his next class. He passed Lance a few times in the hallway throughout the rest of the day and sure enough, the stench of weed was once again traced everywhere Lance walked.

*~*~*~*~*

Keith practically slammed the door to his car as he approached the detention center, feeling like he had reached his limit with Lance's actions.

Once he'd fulfilled all of the payments and such for bail, the wardens brought Lance out from the back. Keith had expected him to be acting high like the last time, but he was pretty surprised once he saw him. Lance wasn't drugged up on the stuff -- he hardly smelled like it anymore.

His eyes were still bloodshot, but one thing that certainly caught Keith off-guard was the tears streaking down his cheeks.

"K-Keith, I didn't mean to..."

Realizing what he meant, Keith gently placed his hand on the boy's shoulder. "C'mon. Let's go."

"I r-really didn't m-mean it." Lance began shaking in his spot and Keith momentarily stopped trying to make progress towards the door.
