For best or for worst some people never change, even after a horrible event.

(Cellphone starts ringing)
"Ugh... who's calling me now." I walked over to the table and picked my phone. "Ashley?" what does this bitch want now?
"What!?" I asked as soon as I picked the call.
"Ummm, Damien?" she inquired.
"What do you want Ashley?"
"Damien I know that we have never seen eye to eye, but I want you to know that I know what you're going through. That it is difficult and that nothing takes away how you feel. I lost my aunt and it was the worst thing I had to go through, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I know that we have our differences, but if you need anything you can count on me." I could hear it in her voice that she really meant it, not that it mattered anyway because I don't want anything from her.
"Look Ashley, I don't want anything from you, you can go and give all your support to that little psychopath boyfriend of yours. There's nothing that someone so dumb like you can do. I don't need you and you can go screw yourself for all I care." She is really stupid if she thought that I wanted her sympathy.
"I can't believe you're still being a dick after what happened. I offered my help and you treat me like shit, but you know what? Fine, keep being a dick, lets see how far that gets you." She snapped at me and hung up right after she finished talking. I personally don't care about her or anything she has to say. She can die for all I care, she's the reason the entire school laughed at me last year. The way I got rejected by her really annoyed me and if I can't have her, I will make her life a living hell.
My dad was with me a couple minutes later when he received a call. "Hello?" my dad answered. I could see him as his skin got paler and his expression turned to a face of horror.
"Dad? What's wrong? Who are you taking to?" I questioned.
"Ok, thank you for the news officer. Keep me posted if you find anything else please," my dad said.
"What's wrong dad?"
"Damien, an officer called me and he said that the brakes on my car were cut off. That it wasn't an accident. Someone tried to kill me and they wanted it to look like an accident. It's my fault that your mother is in that state. She wasn't supposed to be in the car, it was me," I could see his guilt as he said it.
"Wait, what? You're telling me that this wasn't just an accident? That someone did it on purpose?"
"Yes Damien, someone wanted me to have an accident."
"But who would want you dead?" I asked.
"I don't know, but the police wants to know too. The police officer told me that I needed to go to the station tomorrow," he said. "But let's be honest, I'm a lawyer, I piss off people for a living. That means that the list of people who would want me dead has to be long."
I sigh in frustration. "So you're telling me that we don't have any clue of who did this? Someone tried to kill you, in doing so they hurt mom and we don't know who might've done it? Incredible!"
"Calm down Damien," he stared at me directly into my eye, "look, I know it's hard to see your mother and not know if she's really gonna be ok or not; but you need to keep calm. She's my wife so it's hard for me too, but I'm trusting the police. I trust that they'll do their job and find out who did this and they better find him because if they don't they're going to be in a lot of trouble".
"But whoever did this is still out there and he could be planning how to kill you, and maybe this time he won't fail."
"Damien, nothing is going to happen to me. I'm going to be fine," my father seemed so sure, but I still could not let down my guard.
"How can you say that? There's no way of knowing for sure. If you go out there it could be the last time you walk through that door."
He put his hand on my shoulder and with a calming voice he said, "Ok Damien, just calm down. I'll call the precinct and tell them to come meet me here or to send a unit to get me."
"Thank you dad," I smiled at him and then entered the waiting room.
A day had passed since the accident and we still haven't heard anything from the doctors. My dad was arguing with the receptionist when a doctor entered the waiting room. He had his mask pulled down and as he called us I noticed in his eyes that something wasn't right, I think I'm about to get bad news.
"I got some good news and some bad news," he takes a deep breath and looks at both of us. "The good news is that Kathelyn is alive and the studies showed that she should get better with time. The bad news is that despite our greatest efforts she's in a coma. For some reason she's still irresponsive."
"So you're telling me that my wife is in a coma and that you don't know why?"
"I'm sorry Mr. Hardaway we did all we could and she should be awake right now, but she isn't and we still don't know why." The doctor put his hand on my shoulder and apologized one last time before leaving.
