PART ONE: THE SCARRING OF SUNSHINE
CHAPTER THREE: VOICES OCEAN DEEP
[Run boy Run: Wood kid]
1st JANUARY 3017
Wooden hands along the roadside make way as we continuing running. According to the rumour mill getting nearer and nearer our destination.
“Motorbikes?” I exclaim as we reach a motorbike parlour.
“Yeah motorbikes are the mainstream of travel here at ocean valley. Trust me it’s so fun.” Andrea answers.
“Hello. Today we have a new member joining us for the festival. Come on Andie. My name’s Ansel. Welcome to ocean valley. The life of us teens.” He begins beckoning me to the middle of the fairly large crowd. They all wave and smile. Real smiles.
“Err, Ansel. Well I cannot ride a motorbike.” I say whilst everyone begins to mount on their motorbikes. Lining up on the road in three lines horizontally.
“Do you want to come on my back?” He suggests.
“Err”
“Don’t worry I’m a qualified motorist. You’ll be safe with me.” He winks and before I can counter he lifts me up by the waist onto the bike, then he gets on.
“Hold on tight. Infact, I’ll go slowly.” He shouts through his helmet.
“No it’s ok. I’m ready for adventure. Go as fast as you can!”
“Ok. If you say so.”
He continues driving to the front of the crowd and centre. “Is everybody ready?”
“Yeah” The crowd of teens chorus. Raring to go.
“Right here are your instructions. Everyone must travel in fours. Therefore if one gets hurt. Two people can go and look for help and one person can stay with the casualty. First collect your goodies and treats from your houses then travel around the city making sure you don’t give a Family two gifts there only enough for one each. Here are your teams.”
He hands out teams of four. 11 times. 44 in total. He also tells them what part of the Northlake to cover. My group consists of Andrea, a boy called Christopher, me and Ansel. Ansel continues.
“Right now it’s 12:01. Please meet be back at two o’ clock by the rose parlour. In time for the girls to start the cooking and the boys to help with the gardening. Then we will swop. Is everyone clear and ready?”
“YEAH” The crowd chants!
“I said is everybody ready?”
“YEAH”
“Then let’s go! Wahoo!!!”
All forty four engines snarl at once, sending sparks throughout my brain. I grab Ansel's waist tightly as he flies through the air, meandering through the rest. I grin so much as the blustery weather smacks against my cheeks. Too much that I begin to laugh. Never have I had so much fun.
“What’s so funny?” Ansel asks.
“Wait how can you see me?”
“I do have a rear-view mirror.” He answers.
I sprout into a tomato. Red as velvet. Embarrassed that he’d been watching me all this time. He smiles to himself and shakes his head as I lift my hands but loose my balance and harshly land my hands on his back.
“Oops sorry.”
“S’right.”
“Right Andrea and Chris we will be taking a left towards the riverbank in the next one hundred yards. My house is just to the left. We will just collect the goodies and go to Chris’s.”
