Sabre bursted into the bunker. Thunderstorms were raging in the Rainbow Town, as though as the last remains of the evil Steves still existed, desperately trying to vanquish the last ones who tried getting in their way. He signalled another figure to follow him, after he went through the iron door, Sabre pushed a button as the bunker door closed shut. "Again, we'll be safe here..." his partner panted while adjusting his red cap, they both were exhausted from the quick dash. Sabre headed towards a staircase and pulled a lever nearby, it opened a secret spying window which both can see the situation outside.
"Lucas, this is not good. Rainbow Steve went missing again last week and yet he came back and started to attack us. He looked like he has never met us!" Sabre flicked the lever again and turned to his friend. Lucas, looking as traumatised as Sabre, leaned against the wall, his arms crossed and his head down.
"But are we sure that is the real Rainbow Steve we all know?" He questioned.
"Of course he is! We got rid of Faceless, so there's legitimately no one could imitate Rainbow Steve, we also haven't seen any evil Steves for months, so obviously they wouldn't just mind popping up and control Rainbow Steve just to attack us!"
Lucas looked up at Sabre, his eyes clouded with troublesome, "though you're right, the Rainbow Town has been peaceful for a long time, we haven't seen any other Steves, not to mention we had never even piss one off... then why?"
Lightning and thunder were still raging outside, soon after, the noise stopped. It was a silence.
Sabre opened the bunker door, crouching to look if their lost friend had flown away. "Wait here, I'm gonna check," he reminded. He slowly stepped out into the open and rolled to hide under a tree. "I think he's gone." He said, walking out from the leaves.
Lucas went out and closed the bunker door, when suddenly, Rainbow Steve appeared between them. "SABRE!" His roar echoed through the town. Sabre tried to hit him with a lava bucket when he found himself in an unfamiliar place, he was teleported away.
Why did he teleported us away if he wanted to kill us? He felt dizzy, but his questions pushed it away, or that this is a prank?
Sabre waited for the Steve to teleport them back and explain, but nothing happened.
Guess that this isn't a joke then...
Climbing back up his feet, he called for his friend, but no reply was heard. Sabre passed through the tall grass, which were wavering from the soft, cool breeze. He began wandering off into the plains. Each step, he repeated, "Lucas!"
He saw a slope where a huge plateau stood at the other side of the waterfall. It was a mesmerising sight. Immediately, he spotted a rainbow tree beside the falls, but not an ordinary rainbow tree, it was huger than the Rainbow Trees he had seen growing in the Rainbow Town, it's the Rainbow Tree of Life! Half confused, half doubtful, he took out his firework rocket and glided towards the tree with his powered elytra.
As he arrived, he noticed something very different about the giant rainbow tree. Instead of coloured wool, gem blocks were hung on the branches. Gold, lapis, diamond, emerald and redstone blocks shimmered from the sunlight, the tree bark is covered with a layer of glowstone dust. As he could tell, that was not an ordinary Rainbow Tree of Life. As he reached out to touch it, a voice appeared behind him which shocked him.
"What are you doing here?"
Sabre turned back to where the voice came from, a young girl holding an iron sword in each hand stood before him. She looked as confused as he was. She looked away as if she was thinking about something, then turned to him, saying, "Even though I felt like I've seen you before, that doesn't mean you can come and destroy everything here, speak! Who are you and what are you doing here?" She pointed one sword at Sabre, her expression was cold.
Sabre took a step backwards, so far as he had known, only a few Steves can talk, mainly the most powerful ones. Glancing at the strange figure standing before him, Sabre's mind began to race wildly. She can talk, but she has no name tag, she's not a Steve nor a player... what is she? He pondered, hardly believing that there were people other than him and Lucas in this world, he stepped backwards until he accidentally fell down. "Look, calm down, we don't want to start a fight. My name's Sabre, and I come in peace." It was an awkward silence. However, slowly but surely, the girl withdrew her swords inside the leather holder on her back.
"Well how did you find this place?" She pulled Sabre up. Constantly swiping dust off his pants, Sabre stared at the tree. She also glanced at the unusual tree and seemed to get the answer. "My name's Athena. And this is my home. So I guessed that the Rainbow Tree of Hope guided you here." She concluded, her expression softened, but still blank. "So I guess you had seen one similar Rainbow Tree before?" She questioned.
"Yep." He replied, still looking at the Rainbow Tree. "So this is the Rainbow Tree of Hope?"
"Yes, there's another one, the Rainbow Tree of Faith, back where my brother lived. Sadly he passed away, leaving both places for me to take care of." She stared at the ground, as if her heart ached for a bit from the tragedy, yet she seemed proud that she could still have both trees under her care for such a long time. Sabre didn't know what to say. But he soon realised something. Why was she trusting him so easily?
"Why did you say all of this to somebody you've just met for less than half an hour?" He queried, feeling insecure. But Athena showed no uncertainty nor suspicion in her dark brown eyes.
"I know, but, you're special, Sabre. You are one I have to find to revenge them, of course! Guardians of the Rainbow Trees..." She exclaimed, smiling proudly to herself. It felt dark but she kept smiling as if the bitterness didn't matter so much that it seemed like he gave her hope. Turning to him, Athena added, "We need to hunt them down or else these places, and the one you saw earlier will be in grave danger. Here, follow me."
Athena quickly ran back to a quartz pillar hidden under the shadows of an oak tree. Sabre followed, his curiosity brought him wandering into the new area, where the Rainbow Tree of Hope was guarded. She pressed a button, and they were teleported to a magnificent House in the woods. Athena went in without hesitation, she opened the door and went in, leaving the door opened for Sabre to follow. The house wasn't too fancy, yet it was beautifully decorated with the gem blocks like the ones on the Rainbow Tree of Hope. She went to the second floor, and to Sabre's surprise, it looked similar to the Rainbow House back at their town. The chests were at the same places, the staircase was angling to the same direction. It's almost like he was back at home. He was feeling to ask her how did she came up with a building idea like his, was that a coincidence?
But wait, he told himself, We're here for a different purpose, I have to find Lucas and Rainbow Steve.
He walked up to the chest, he turned to Athena and asked, "Can I borrow some of your gear? Because I have to search for my friend, and I have to go back to our Rainbow Town."
The girl nodded as he took some enderpearls, a bow and a few golden apples when he found her holding a diamond sword with sharpness II and fire aspect I.
"It's my brother's, since he's gone, it's been sitting around here collecting dust and yet, I think you can use it to defend yourself." She added. Sabre took the blade and looked at it. It was polished recently, and there were some old blood splatters near the hilt.
"Thanks," he spoke.
"I'm coming with you," she declared. Sabre's instincts told him that it could be better with a partner, or a newly-made friend, but parts of him didn't want to drag anybody into danger. But before he opened his mouth to speak, Athena had already geared up. "No matter what you say, I'm coming with you. Saving your friends is one of our missions, but while we're at it, there's something else that I have to do there. And it's my mission."
She tossed a totem of undying to Sabre, who was witnessing the whole process. "Well okay, fine. We could use a hand or two." He said, "But what about the both remaining trees?"
"They can wait for a while after this, without the guardians around, ordinary living beings could not see them," she hurried to the door as they left the house. Soon enough, they're back at the Rainbow Tree of Hope.
Sabre felt wanting to ask her more about this mysterious place when Athena looked around with an annoyed look on her face. "Not now, first, prepare for our first and last encounter in this area," she warned, pulling out her swords. He sighed in disappointment, but he knew there will be an answer sooner or later. Soon enough, both of them embraced for their first fight of the day.
Instantly, Sabre heard Wither Skeletons and Zombies drawing nearer and nearer. He was puzzled that he remembered that there won't be any evil mobs spawning in this world. "They knew we're here, we have to drive them away from the trees!" Athena shouted as she leaped and stabbed one zombie when kicking the approaching skeletons. Sabre watched her battling moves. She wasn't a pro yet, but she was capable of handling multiple enemies.
Just before Sabre concentrated on his duels, a zombie leaped and pinned him onto the floor, swishing it's rotten hands and roaring loudly. Sabre quickly rolled over before a skeleton struck him with its iron sword. Immediately, he grasped his enchanted diamond sword and swung it, sending fire sparks everywhere around him. Soon he got surrounded by the skeletons, all waiting to stab him, at once, using the force on his sword, he leaped up just in time for them to strike, each damaging another, then, the wave is clear. Sabre landed and turned to find Athena, who had just sent a few zombies crashing one another, with a final blow, she finished them off with a stab combo.
"There, are you okay?" She glanced at him after pulling her sword out from the zombie.
"I'm fine, we have to get outta here, quick!" Athena nodded in return as they dashed and disappeared into the jungle.
