We sat in silence for another minute. We didn't move. I laid there thinking about what he had done. It was replaying over and over again in my head. "What are you doing here?" I asked him in a sweet low voice. "I saw you here and you looked upset, so I came over to you." He said. I looked back down. "And because I wanted to apologize. Each year the football team picks a cheerleader to prank. The MVP (me) has to do it. They chose you." I sighed. "I never should've done it. You're an amazing person, Blondie." I almost started blushing. Then I realized... he hurt me. Did I really want him in my life? "You hurt me, Grayson. I don't know if I can forgive something like that." "I know it's a lot to ask, but give me a chance." He said. "Grayson, I had a major crush on you for like 2 years and I was never noticed! So, when I thought you actually liked me my life was perfect. I thought finally I wouldn't be living in darkness. I would see the light coming from you. But no, Grayson, you're just like the rest." I got up and tried to leave. Grayson grabbed my arm. He pulled me back to him. We met face to face. He kissed me. When he released me I still stared into his eyes. "I like you too Blondie." Seconds later I pulled away. "All of this would be avoided if you were smart." I said as I walked further away from him. He didn't come after me. He just let me go.
I tried so hard to find my way home. It was getting dark and I was lost. Cars drove by not noticing a freezing cold girl walking on the street by herself. A car pulled up on the side of the road and a ton of girls jumped out. Leading the group were my ex-best friends. They all came toward me. I walked faster trying to escape them, but they didn't give up. "Rosalina!!" I heard Sarah call. No one ever used my full name it was almost embarrassing. I finally turned around. "What?" I then realized the whole cheer squad was there. "Are you lost little Rosie?" One of them asked. "No," I answered quickly even though I was lying. They all started throwing things at me. At first I didn't know what it was, but I figured it out.
They were throwing colored water balloons at me. I was wearing my favorite white t-shirt that is now ruined. I ran. I ran from the cheer squad and my feelings. I didn't understand. What did I do that put me in this situation? I kept running. "Oww!" I heard a voice say. I was laying on the floor next to Ben. "Oh my god I'm so sorry, Ben. I was running from the girls and now I'm here with you." I was breathing heavily. Ben took my arm and tried to calm me down. "It's ok, I'm here now." He brought me into a comforting hug. "Let's get you home."
It was the next morning and I was having troubles finding a good outfit. Should I dress up like I used to when I was on the cheer squad or should I dress as my sad lonely self. I didn't know. I climbed back into my bed and stared at the wall. My mom came in almost an hour later. "Why are you still here? You should be at school Rosalina! You're grounded!" She stormed out. I didn't mean to miss my first class, but i was distracted... by my wall. I threw on some sweats and another nerdy science shirt. I threw my hair up into another messy bun and left.
When I got to school I quickly went to my locker. I opened it up to find it filled with colorful sticky notes. It almost looked nice. All I had in my locker was my books. No color. No fun stuff. I was almost happy until I started to read what each note said. They were all hate notes. Each one was signed by a member of the cheer team. My eyes started watering, and tears rolled down my pink cheeks. I was surprised when I felt someone come up from behind me and hug me. "You said you were fine, but I read that when girls say they're fine, they really aren't." "Grayson," I whispered. "What do you want?" I said as i sniffled and wiped the tears from my face. "I want you, Blondie." I turned around in his arms so I was facing toward him. He grabbed my waist and pulled me into a hug. I let him. I lifted my head up on his shoulder and hugged him back. I felt his body tighten up. "It's just a hug, Hercules." He laughed and pushed me back keeping his hands on my arms. He looked at my smiling face and laughed again. He pulled me back into a hug. I felt his warm hand push my hair behind my ear. "Meet me under the bleachers, I want a redo."
Hours went by. Finally, science class was started. The last class of the day. We were doing partner work again and I got paired with Grayson. I tried so hard not to think about Ben. I knew what I was doing was probably wrong. What if I got closer to Grayson and decided he would be a better date to homecoming. I didn't even know if I still liked Grayson... or Ben. I was falling for one of them, but I didn't know which one. Science class flew by. Grayson and I spent half the time talking instead of working. I was so excited to hear what he has to say after school.
Once the bell rang, instead of meeting Grayson at the bleachers we walked together. I told him about my morning and how it sucked before he got there to me. He stopped me. We were standing under the bleachers. "Look up," he said once again. "Are you sure people aren't going to come running out saying I got pranked again?" I said sarcastically. "I promise I'll never do that to you again," he told me. I looked up. I read a big sign that said, "Will you go to homecoming with me?" I looked down at him. "Yes!" He stepped forward. We met face to face. He was about to bend down to kiss me, but we were interrupted by the cheerleaders... again. "Haha, you've been pranked! Isn't that so funny Graysie-poo!" Rebecca say. Sarah walked over closer to us. Come on Grayson. She grabbed his arm pulling him into a kiss. She looked at me and started to mock me. Grayson didn't know what to do. There wasn't really anything he could do, but let those worthless, evil girls take him away from me. He turned around looking at my sad facial expression. "I'm sorry." He mouthed. I ran back to my car and drove home. If only he hadn't been such a jerk the first time.
