New beginnings and jealous exes

"Wait you seriously haven't tried waffles?" I ask, completely shocked.

Calum smiles and raises his hands in defense. "I prefer pancakes over waffles any day. And I just think pancakes are more original, I mean one day everyone likes them, then Bamn!- A cooking incident happens then there's a waffle!"

I laugh and shake my head in disbelief. For the past hour I've been talking to Calum. We both ordered an iced tea at Starbucks, since we really don't like coffee.

Oh, yeah! That's another thing I forgot to mention; I don't like coffee anymore. I stopped drinking it three weeks ago and I feel completely fine without it. Yesterday I tried a sip from my mom's coffee, since she likes her coffee the way I used to, and I completely hated the taste. So I decided that I'd be best if I didn't make a complete fool out of myself in front of my date by doing a spit take.

"Alright, so what are your interests?" He asks, pushing his hair back.

I think about this for a second. I do like drawing, but since I've started reading and going to school I haven't had that much time. I tried to regain my hobby of drawing before, but I just didn't feel the same about it. I guess things change.

"Well, I really like to read as you can tell." I motion to my bags as he grins and chuckles. "But I think I want to take up more musical activities."

He grins, tilting his head to the side. "Like what?"

I blush a little. "Well like singing and learning how to play an instrument."

This time it's his turn to blush as he speaks. "You know, I dabble a little in singing. I make YouTube videos with my friends. We mostly do our own songs, but we also do covers. If you're ever interested and do decide to take up singing, maybe we can do a duet."

I smile at the idea. "Yeah, I would love that."

Just when he's about to saying something, I'm too shocked at what happens next. I see, the one, the only; jerky, rude and Notorious Bad boy, speaks to Calum with an icy glare.

"What the hell do you think you're doing with my girlfriend, little boy?" He yells, putting a protective arm around me.

In spite of everything I can only stare. Even though it's only been a month, he looks different. For one, he hasn't shaven; I can tell since there is dark stubble under and on his jaw. He wears a frown, making him look significantly less attractive. And his eyes, once beautifully blue like the ocean, are now hard and dark without any trace of kindness.

It only takes a second to react, I push his arm off my shoulder and stand, clenching my jaw. I take a hold of my bags. "First, I am certainly not your girlfriend and nor was I ever. And secondly, Calum" I say, giving him an apologetic and pleading smile. "Can we go please?"

He looks over at Avery, then nods. Calum stands, talking my hand in his and we talk out of Starbucks. Before we walk out Calum stops and looks back at Avery.

"And for the record, Asshole; She's my girlfriend!" He shouts, catching at least half of the attention of every person in the shop.

I stare at him, mouth agape before hurrying down the concrete steps. We stay like this for a while, just walking till we reach the water fountains and take a seat in one of the benches. He sits next to me, not saying anything. I break the silence by doing the unthinkable; I laugh.

"Why are you laughing? That douche pants back there just said you were his girlfriend and almost fought me; how do you find this funny?" He asks in a curious tone, but I'm surprised that he isn't mad.
