3:40 pm

I slowly opened my eyes as the sound of my phone ringing slowly woke me up. 'TaeTae is calling' the screen read. I quickly scrambled to answer the phone. "Hello?"

"Hey Kookie."

"TaeTae!"

Silence.

"What's wrong?" I frowned.

"I need to talk with you." He eventually replied.

"About what?"

"Meet me in the park, right at the lake shore."

I felt my heart tighten as I heard the sadness and depression in his voice.

"Alright, see you there."

I hung up the phone and frantically searched for my shoes.

3:50 pm

I jogged up to the lake, out of breath. I took a minute to catch my breath before looking around for Taehyung. My eyes settled on a figure standing by the lake shore on the far side, near the tree line.

"TaeTae!" I shouted out as I got closer to him. He turned around and I froze in my tracks. There were fresh tears streaming down his cheeks, he looked like he was trying not to cry again. "What's wrong?" I stepped up to him and embraced him.

He rested his head on my shoulder, dampening the cloth of my t-shirt with his tears. "I'm sorry." Was all he said.

I pulled back from him to look him in the eyes. "What are you sorry for?"

He stepped back and turned around with his head hung low. "I can't do this anymore."

I froze. Oh no... Is this what I think it is?!

"T-Taehyung..." I tried to take a step closer to him but he just walked away from me.

"I can't be with you anymore."

My heart stopped I swear to you as those words registered in my head. "W-what?" Something was slowly building inside of me...and it wasn't something nice. "Why?"

"The looks that people give us... People keep hurting you..."

"I can take it," I stepped up behind him and back-hugged him.

"I don't want to see you get hurt... and have me be the cause." He looked up straight head at the water, as if he was looking for some kind of answer in the ripples.

I hugged him tighter, my own tears starting to brim my eyes. It can't end like this. Not after so long together. I can't lose him. "No..." I managed barely above a whisper. "I can't lose you."

"It's only gonna get worse..."

How?

"Namjoon is going to want me to marry when I take over the company...to produce an heir..."

He turned around and hugged me tightly, burying my face in his chest. He tilted my head up to look him in the eyes, which had fresh tears threatening to fall. "I love you."

With that, he was gone.

I looked down at my watch as he walked away in silent tears.
