December 2011
It's almost Christmas time and I just asked Erin to go out with me on a proper date. We haven't gone in a long time since we have been occupied with hospital stays and getting better at home. She was feeling much better now from her last treatment.
It had been like that with her chemotherapy. She would be very sick and weak, from all the side effects of the medicines then in a week or two she will be up and about depends on how strong the dose that was given to her. So I took advantage of the little window that we had and try to enjoy a night out in New York City.
As I pulled over by the hotel I picked out by Central Park, I can see how excited Erin was. "We are checking in a hotel?"
"Yes! So we don't need to rush and drive home later." I said to her.
"Are you planning to be naughty tonight?" She had this big smile on her face.
"Maybe." I teased her. "So, we are checking in now then we have to make a quick change. We have a dinner reservation to get to, okay?"
"I'm excited." she said.
"Good." I winked at her.
After impressing Erin with our Central Park facing room, we waited by the sidewalk just outside the hotel lobby. A black limousine pulled up and a door man helped us in.
"Jake? How in the world are we going to pay for this?" She asked.
"Don't worry about it. Just enjoy the evening, okay?" I said to her as I put my arm around her shoulders.
"You look very beautiful tonight, babe." I said to her.
She blushed.
"Thank you." she replied before leaning her body closer to mine.
She was wearing a red longsleeved dress that stopped just below her knee, black tights and black pumps. She had a cream and red colored scarf beautifully wrapped around her head. I opted for a navy suit, white shirt and burgundy tie. The last time we dressed up nicely like this was our prom that seemed like ages ago.
We dined at a fancy restaurant at the bottom of Chrysler Building. After we enjoyed our scrumptious meal, I paid the bill and asked her. "Are you ready?"
"Where to next?"
"I am not quite sure if you're going to like what I have in store but I will give it a shot." I said to her.
She flashed a big smile and said "I am liking it already. Let's go."
The limousine dropped us off at 49th Street by Rockefeller Center. I helped her get out while the driver positioned her wheelchair behind her. I grabbed a couple of blankets to put by her legs.
"Jacob, did you take me here to see the giant Christmas tree? You do know we are overdressed for this."
I started to push her around the famous ice skating rink. I was trying my best not to regret this plan of mine. Taking Erin in her wheelchair around the place in December was a total nightmare. The crowd was just unbelievable but we're here now and there's no plan B. When I stopped to a spot that I thought would be a good view for us. I bent down so she and I were eye level.
"Remember, how you wanted to see the Northern Lights?" I asked her.
"Yes??" She looked more confused.
