Summer of 2020

I hear the horns of the cars around me while I wait for her. A lot of angry drivers in New York City on this hot and humid summer day. I might be the only one who is in such a good mood today. As I sit here on the park bench across from her workplace I can't stop myself from feeling excited. I am finally seeing her.

She should be coming out soon as her shift ended thirty minutes ago.  Looking at the building where she works makes it very nostalgic for me.   I remember hospitals used to be like home for me years ago then there came a time when I wouldn't even step into one.  But now, here I am picking up my girlfriend who ironically works into one.

I see her coming out of the door with a huge smile on her face.  I feel my heart leap.   She's beautiful.  Her dark brown hair and olive skin makes her a stand out.   I haven't seen her in a long time as we are in the middle of our world tour.

I flew stateside just to attend Stella's wedding this weekend.  I will be flying to Europe in a few days but I will leave without spending some quality time with my Judy.

"Hey!"

She wraps her arms around me and gives me a big kiss.

"I miss you so much!  How was the wedding?"

"It was great.  Stella was of course very beautiful." I say as I watch her sit next to me.

"Mr. & Mrs. O'Connor were looking for you"  I add.

"Did you say I was sorry for backing out the last minute?  I couldn't find somebody to fill in for me.  We were understaffed this past weekend and since I am one of the last people to ask for vacation.  Mine didn't get approved."  She says.

"That's alright, love. I told them and they understand.  They said the next time I am in town I should bring you over."  I say to her after giving her another kiss.

"Gosh I miss you so much! Come with me to London, please?"

"I would love to. Let me fix my schedule first then we will figure out when I can fly out to wherever you guys at. How was the show in Barcelona?" She asks.

"Oh! It was amazing! The crowd was unbelievable! I still get nervous at the beginning of every show but the energy, the vibe..it just makes everything.... I don't know how to describe it. Overwhelming?"

"Oh baby! You should get used to it by now." She says as she hook her arm on mine.

"I know. But every stage is a different experience, you know? Anyway, dinner? Do you want to eat out or go to my place?" I ask her.

"Your place? There's nothing in there! I was just there last week and all you have was some bad cheese in the fridge. I took home the cereals by the way. You can get new ones when you are finally back." Judy chuckles.

"You're right. Yeah. Thanks for doing that. I hate it when food gets bad at my house. So what's the dinner plan? I'm starving." I lace our hands together as we start to walk towards the sidewalk.

"How about we go to the store and get some stuff to make at my place? Does that sound good to you?"

"Can we go to mine instead? You can make dinner while I do some laundry and sort out the pile of mail sitting in my apartment. Is that alright?"
