Chapter Eleven and a Half

Thursday: Outside Namjoon's Study, 9:10 pm, Jaebum's POV:

- This day couldn't end soon enough. Prince Yugyeom was clearly going to drive Jaehwan past his breaking point. You had never seen Jaehwanie act this polite while he was being pestered before. Normally he would have snapped and started shouting at Yugyeom after about 2 minutes. How he had kept a smile on his face all day was a mystery to you.

- You had heard all of the stupid and frustrating things the prince had been whispering to him, since you were by his side all day. Ravi had clearly been listening as well, because he had looked ready to whip out one of his million knives since breakfast.

- You had gone with him and Kai to put Yoonsun to bed, obviously, and to your surprise, Yoonsun had fallen asleep almost instantly. Jaehwan had sung him a quiet lullaby, and he hadn't been fussy at all, something that hadn't happened since Jin was taken.

- Kai had spoken with him in the nursery, but only long enough to say that Jaehwanie was doing a really good job and to keep it up. It was a slightly weird interaction though, because it seemed like Kai didn't actually know who Jaehwanie was, or he was pretending not to know. The king had also been oddly touchy and put a hand on his arm while they were talking, which you weren't a fan of but kept quiet.

- When Jaehwan had collapsed in Namjoon's study, you had been extremely worried that Jin's anxiety had rubbed off on him somehow. But it seemed like he was just exhausted. Putting on this act was taking a toll on him, and you wished Namjoon had found someone else to do it.

- You and Ravi were following the two of them upstairs to the parlor after the momentary break, and Jaehwan's act was firmly back in place. You couldn't stop yourself from glancing at the arm he had around Namjoon's waist and had to take several deep breaths to calm your racing heart.

- When you arrived, Prince Yugyeom appeared and put a hand on Jaehwan's shoulder, asking, "What took you so long?" in a voice so soft you didn't think Namjoon could hear.

- You saw him glare at the prince anyway, but thought it was probably just because he was there. Ravi was a half-step ahead of you as the two of you followed them over to a couch.

- Why was Namjoon even letting this stupid prince speak to Jaehwan?! If he had been behaving this way with the real Jin, Namjoon would have stabbed him and kicked him out of the castle!

- *An Hour Later*

- You clenched and unclenched your fist behind your back, forcing yourself to stand still as you watched the prince refill Jaehwan's wine glass for what was probably the ten thousandth time. The loud music was getting on your nerves, and you were seriously debating just dragging Jaehwanie out of the room.

- Prince Yugyeom hadn't stopped touching him since you all got here, first straightening Jaehwan's collar, then putting a hand on his shoulder, and even playfully poking the tip his nose at one point. At the moment, he had his hand on Jaehwan's knee, but you could tell that every time he adjusted his sitting position, his hand moved a tiny bit further up Jaehwan's thigh. It was very hard for you not to walk over and cut his hand off.

- Out of nowhere, the prince stopped whispering and called, "Kai, you like to dance with Jinnie, right?" Where had that even come from? And how would he possibly know that?

- Kai called back, "Of course!" and you watched him stand up as Yugyeom whispered something else to Jaehwan. Namjoon said something you couldn't hear, but he looked distinctly annoyed as Kai pulled Jaehwan off the couch.
