A Weird Love Story

Chapter 10- Fun Day and Sundaes Part 2

Grace's P.O.V.-

The girl in the laser tag arena explained all the rules of the game. A door lifted behind us like a garage door and behind it was the gear with different colors lighting up. There are no teams in this game so once we strap all of our heavy suits together, we start running and I hide on the second floor in a type of box-shaped corner with only one opening. Perfect for all angles and easy to shoot when people pass me by. I wonder where Maria is? She knows to meet me here. We meet in this spot everytime. She probably ditched me for Joe. Again. I know she is excited about finally having a boyfriend but she doesn't need to spend every living moment with him. Especially during laser tag!

After a few minutes of sitting by myself and shooting little kids, I hear a familiar laugh. I stand up and peak out the opening of the box to see Maria and Joe running around, giggling, and shooting each other. When they stop to take a break, I almost say something but then they kiss. On the lips. That is when I get mad so I decide to shoot them both.

Maria's P.O.V.-

I'm about to kiss Joe for the second time when I hear a buzzing sound and then I look down to see that the lights on my suit turn off for 5 seconds then the same thing happens to Joe. "Ugh! Some annoying kid shot us." I say really frustrated. He shrugs "Oh well. It still won't stop us from doing anything." I smile then we both lean in but we both get shot again. "Maybe it will." but this time I see where the shots came from and I recognize it. "I'll be right back." then I run up the side ramp to the second floor and see Grace leaning over the rail, looking for something down below with her gun ready. I'm starting to get mad so I bring my gun up and shoot her. She jumps in the air, shocked, and looks at her own uniform then looks up and sees me with my gun in hand. "You!" I shout. "We are supposed to be on a team!" She shoots me again before saying, "If we were a team, you would've met me here like we always have!"

"Grace! It's not about winning! It's about having fun!"

"Oh, yeah! It's so fun sitting here by myself!" she sarcastically said.

"I'm sorry but a little change once in a while won't kill you! Plus you could have just told us to join you instead of shooting us!"

"But I just want you to join me! I don't both of you!"

"Why not?"

"Because I feel left out!"

"Left out from what!?"

"BEING WITH SOMEONE!" She screamed throwing her hands in the air then letting them fall. "Dianne is closer to Bill, Rydel even has her brothers and that friend-" "Ratliff." I interjected. "Ratliff. And now you have Joe. And what do I have? A younger brother and sister who don't really like me."

"Why didn't you just tell me?"

"You don't get it do you! You. Are. Always. With. Joe!"

"But I-" she cuts me off. "Just stop." she says raising a hand close to her and shakes her head.

Right then, a type of bell rings meaning the game is over and she slowly walks away but I just stand there until Joe jogs up to me and asks, "Is everything ok?" He puts his hand on my shoulder but I quickly fling it forwards to get it off and walk away to get to the lobby.

We get there and they are all waiting for us but Grace has her back facing me.

You know what, I don't care! Grace just needs to get over herself! She'll forget this stupid fight tomorrow! I shake the worst thoughts out of my head just as Joe walks over.

"What's wrong? Did I do something or say something?"

"No! No, it's nothing. Grace and I just got into a little fight, that's all. Don't worry about it."

"Okay." he says kissing me on the forehead and walking away.

Just then Rydel and Dianne come skipping over and halt right in front of me. "Hey we have some great news!" Rydel sings. "What is it?"

"We are gonna have a sleepover...Wait for it...At Rydel's house!" Dianne squeals.

"AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!" I start screaming at the top of my lungs then start jumping up and down flapping my hands like a dying seal, fangirling (in other words).

"But!," I automatically stopped what I was doing and gave Rydel a 'Do not ruin my happiness' look and but she continued anyways. "My brothers will not be there because they are at a hockey game at our hometown school for a while so they won't be home in 2 days and Ratliff is on a family vacation."

"Thanks for getting my hopes up! Oh well it will still be fun!"

"That's the spirit!" Dianne exclaimed. "Grace are you gonna come?" Right as she said that, I just look down at my feet for a while but I can still hear them talk.

"Um I don't think so."

"Oh come on! It will be really fun!"

"....Fine."

"Yay! Come on!"

We got all of our stuff from our houses, drove to Rydel's house, and we are already in our cute pjs sitting on the couch and we are playing Truth or Dare. "Grace! Candor or Dauntless?" Dianne asked.

"Dare!" she always picks that. She would so be Dauntless.

"I dare you to call that cute guy from the coffee shop!"

"Ok! Simple enough!"

"I'm not done. You also have to ask him out!"

"Ooooohhhhh!" Rydel and I say at the same time.

So Grace picks up her phone and Rydel gives her his number and puts it on speaker.

"Hello?"

"Hey Colin! It's me Grace."

"Oh hey Grace! What's up?"

"Nothing much I was just wondering if you wanted to get fro-yo sometime?"

"YES!!!! I mean, sure that would be pretty cool."

"Great! Talk to you later?"

"Yup! Can't wait! Bye!"

"Bye!" She hangs up the phone and starts to blush and smile. She looks at me and I mouth 'I'm so sorry!' And she mouth back 'Thanks and I'm sorry too.'

"Dianne! Candor or dauntless." Rydel asks. "Um truth!"

"What happened while we were playing laser tag?"

"Well Bill and I were playing really hardcore until he accidentally hit me in the stomach with his gun and I threw up in a trash can nearby..."

"But you are ok now right?" I ask scared. Grace and Rydel slowly scooch away from her. "Ya I'm fine now. Thanks for your concern guys." she said sarcastically.

We all laugh. "Grace, truth or dare?" Rydel asks

"Again? Fine, truth."

"What did you want to tell me earlier?"

"Oh um-" Right then we heard the front door unlock and heard sorta familiar voices. "Hey Rydel! We had to come back early because the games was cancled due to weather. Who are your friends?"

Standing in the doorway was Rocky followed by Ross, Riker, and Ryland. And I just stood there not moving, with my jaw dropped and out of the corner of my eye, so was Dianne and Grace.
