The next afternoon I decided to go check on Annick. She had pretty bad injuries too from the hunt yesterday. I knocked on her door.
"Come in." She said.
I slowly opened the wooden door. My eyes looked directly at all the walls in her room. Weapons were hung everywhere. I wasn't sure if I was in her room or a torture room.
Tall, black curtains on her window had nearly touched the floor. There was a long black couch next to a fireplace. Annick was sitting there and sharpening a knife. She was wearing black lipstick. Her black, leather gloves were covering everything but her fingertips. I sat down beside her watching her sharpen the knife.
"What's up Elly." She said.
I looked down at the coffee table in front of me. It was in the shape of a coffin. On top, there was a flask, a bottle of blood, and a row of knives.
"I came to see if you were ok, from yesterday." I replied.
She started laughing. "What happened to me yesterday felt like tickles. I've been through worst." She picked up the bottle of blood and drank some.
I chuckled. "If you say so."
"You know, Adele told me how you thought I liked Eric." Annick said.
My body stiffened. "It was a stupid accusation." I said nervously.
"No offence taken." Annick beamed. "I was hard on you because I didn't really know you." Annick took another sip from the bottle. "Besides, I'm not into that lovey shit."
I looked at her confused. "Adele told me you were into women."
"Yea, I am. However, just love and relationships itself, doesn't go with me." Annick replied.
She placed the bottle down and her sharpening tool.
"I used to have a girlfriend, her name was Claudia. She really was the love of my life." Annick looked down and sat back. "I lost her and that was that."
I looked at her expecting maybe a few tears, but she kept her composure.
"What happened?" I asked.
"She died." Annick looked up at me. "That's all you need to know."
I nodded, stood up and headed for the door.
"Elizabeth." Annick stood up. "I'm sorry about your sister."
I turned around, slightly smiled and left.I walked down the hallway with tears in my eyes. I really miss you Laura. I wish it was me.
All of a sudden I bumped into Eric. Our bodies collided for a moment until he grabbed me softly.
"You alright?" He asked.
I looked down. "I'm f-fine."
He placed his warm hand under my chin and softly raised my head. He definitely saw the tears in my eyes.
"What is it? Are you hurt?" He asked concerned.
"No, I'm fine." I tried to walk away but he pulled me closer.
"Elizabeth, tell me." His hands were wrapped around my arms.
"I don't want to talk about it." I said firmly.
"Elizabeth, is it about your sister?" He asked.
I couldn't hold my tears anymore. They poured down my face when he said those words.
"Come, lets go talk somewhere else." Eric said.
We walked into the library and sat down in front of the fireplace. Eric got up and went to his desk. He pulled out a handkerchief and started to wipe my tears.
"I'm sorry, I let my anger out on you." I said softly. "I just, miss her."
Eric sighed. "I know, but you could talk to me about it."
I looked into the fireplace and focused on the sound of the fire crackling. "I don't understand why she died." I looked down. "It should've been me."
Eric's eyebrows narrowed. "Don't say that. Don't ever say that. It's not your fault or your responsibility to have taken her place."
"Then why did she die?" My voice was shaky.
Eric ran his fingers through his hair. "I don't know Elizabeth. Lycans will target whoever they want."
Silence caved in on us again, but this silence was not the comforting kind. I could hear my own heart beating in ache.
"I want to fight for her Eric." I said. "They killed her."
Eric looked down and started shaking his head no. "Fighting won't bring her back." He said.
"I'll feel much better about it." I replied angrily.
"You'll get killed!" Eric raised his voice. "I can't let that happen."
"Eric, you saw out there on the hunt, I was fine." I said.
"Yes, with one you were fine. But what about hundreds?" He looked into my eyes. "I don't want you to get hurt."
I looked down. He had a point. One lycan was hard to take down, imagine having to take down many at the same time.
"What about you?" I said. "You're at risk too."
Eric sighed. "Yes, but you shouldn't worry, I'll be fine."
I looked down realizing I almost told Eric how I feel about him.
"I just don't want anything to happen to you." I said softly.
Eric came closer to me. He placed his hand softly against my cheek and turned my face to him. Our eyes were locked on each other. We slowly leaned in and suddenly our lips touched. I placed my hand on his cheek and I felt my heart beating so fast inside me. We gently pulled away. I bit my lip, wanting more.
Eric softly smiled. "Come back here."
He grabbed my waist and pulled me closer. His soft lips were touching mine once again.
"Be mine." He whispered in my ear.
"I'm yours." I replied.
