Clouds were as fluffy as cotton and blue skies were not to be seen. It was a windy month, food was getting hard to find due to winter approaching. The villagers were all doing their jobs, the Baker was kneading the dough, the milkman was leaving milk outside every door and all the women were washing their clothes outside.
I took my basket and walked to the forest. Even though going to the forest was forbidden, I still went. I didn't see the darkness they warned about or the dangers instead, I felt comfort in the silence it brought.
I put on my hood from my black cloak as I walked through the fog. I kneeled down next to the bushes and began to delicately pick berries. I started to feel a short discomfort, as if there was something near, and that I wasn't alone. I quickly collected the rest of the berries, stood up and looked around carefully. Nothing but fog and the sound of the leaves in the trees rattling in the wind.
When I got back to the village, there was a crowd of people around the church, their facial expressions seemed to be mixed with disgust and fear, as if they just saw a ghost.
My mother grabbed me by my arm, "Where the hell have you been?" Her coal black eyes narrowed angrily into mine. "I was collecting berries." I said calmly. She looked down at my basket and grabbed it. "I don't care!" I looked deeper into her eyes, it looked like she was crying, her face was red and her hands were shaking. I looked at her concerned. "What happened?"
Before she could speak, the mayor yelled over the crowd. "A lycan attack! To our beloved Miss Laura Lakes." My heart dropped when I heard that name, my mother tried to hold me back but I pushed her and ran through the crowd. I stopped to see my sister, dead before me. I started shaking and my head started spinning. I crashed on my knees and wrapped my hands around her face. I started screaming, screaming for her to wake up, for her to show some sign of life, but she was gone.
"Elizabeth." The mayor looked down on me. I looked up and saw the sheriff right next to him. "Where were you when this happened?" He asked. I got up angrily, "You think I would do this!? To my own sister!?" The mayor went to speak but was cut off by a huge sound of thunder. It started pouring and everyone fled to their houses, everyone but me. I sat there, watching as they took Laura's body away.
I didn't go home right away, instead I went to the forest, I walked for a bit but my feet gave up. The image of my sister clouded my mind and I fell to my knees, crying. I started pounding the ground. "WHY!" I screamed. "Why couldn't it be me?" I covered my head in my arms and cried. The sound of a twig snapping made me get up quickly. I turned around and saw a figure. "W-who's there?" My voice was shaky. The figure came closer, it was a wolf. I backed up slowly into a tree and the wolf came closer. It's fur was pitch black and its yellow eyes were glowing. It stopped right in front of me and sat down. Part of me thought it would eat me, but when I looked into those yellow eyes, I felt no fear. I raised my hand to pet it but it slowly stood up and backed away. It then howled softly and
walked away.
