Later on in the evening, Eric took my on a tour of the castle. We walked down the huge black marble staircase onto the main floor. He showed me the library that was filled with books and a huge fireplace. He then showed me the greenhouse that was filled with roses. They were the most beautiful roses I've ever seen. The ones in the village were pinkish-red but the ones here were dark red.
As we were walking down the hallway we passed by a painting of a beautiful woman. She had long dark brown curly hair. Her lips were painted red and she wore a necklace with a huge red diamond in the middle. Her dainty hands were crossed on her legs and she wore a red dress. I looked into her eyes, they were red. Red like Eric's.
"Who is this woman?" I asked.
Eric stopped and looked up at the painting. "No one." He continued walking.
I looked at the painting once more, then followed Eric.
We passed by a room that was completely dark. The door was creaked open a bit and some light was shining down on something. I opened the door and walked inside. It was a grand piano.
The floors were black and white and the windows were tall. Black curtains hung from them, some covered light, some didn't. I went to the piano and delicately touched the major keys.
Eric walked up behind me. "Do you know how to play?"
I looked at him. "Yes, I taught myself." I sat down on the stool.
He looked down at the piano. "Play something for me."
I took a deep breath and raised my hands to the keys. There was one song I knew off by heart, so I played it. Throughout each verse, Eric watched my fingers slide along the keys and my foot press down on the pedal.
He sat down next to me when I finished. "A vampire's lullaby." He said.
I looked at him confused. "What? It's just a lullaby." I chuckled.
He nodded no. "It's called A Vampire's Lullaby." I felt his eyes on me. "Where did you learn that?"
I looked down. "It was the only song I remembered from my father. He played it for me when I was little but, I hardly remember him." I sighed. "It was always my mom, Laura, and me. My mother and I were never close though."
Eric examined me. "And your father? What happened to him?"
I looked down. "He's dead." My mother had never told me much about his death, her only words were, he's gone.
"I'm sorry to hear." He ran his hand through his hair and sighed. I watched him slightly glide his fingers over the keys. "This piano belonged to my mother. My father bought it for her as a gift."
I looked up and our eyes locked. "Your mother, she's the one in the painting." I replied.
Eric looked down. "Yes." His eyes started to tear up. "But she's dead."
He tried to hide his sorrow, I could see it, and I could feel it.
"I-I'm so sorry Eric." I put my hand on his. "Why would your father do such a thing?"
Eric's hand pulled away from mine. "My father was a vampire, but he started to do experiments and he eventually turned himself into a lycan." His eyes zoned out. "My mother tried to hide Adele and me from him. We were just kids, but we understood everything. She tried to stop him, but he killed her." Eric took a deep breath. "Adele didn't see nothing, but I saw it all and it haunts me."
My heart was beating fast, and my throat was dry. I didn't know what to say. How could I say sorry when I have no idea what it's like for a child to see his own mother die in front of him by his father.
"What happened to your father?" I asked.
Eric looked up. "He's alive, and he's the lycan king. There's a war coming, war of the Blood Moon. It's a war between lycans and vampires, but there's some others that will help us such as the wolves. It's not a place for a human though, which is why I'm trying to figure out a safe place to bring you so the lycans won't get you."
A shiver went up my spine. "Why do the lycans want me? Is it cause I'm human?"
Eric nodded. "Lycans go for families, first your sister, and maybe you now."
My head felt dizzy from all of this. "But what about what Annick said, about my blood type."
"It's a code name we use, it means if you're a vampire. She wanted to know if I bit you." Eric locked his eyes on me.
I took a deep breath. "Are you planning to?"
There was silence for a few seconds, even though it was cut short we could still feel it.
Eric sighed. "It's the best thing to do, especially if you're going to stay here, but also to keep the lycans away from getting you first."
I bit my lip nervously. "Does it hurt?" I probably sounded like a coward.
"It's painful for the first ten seconds, considering my teeth are in you." Eric replied.
My breaths became unsteady, I think Eric sensed my fear. To become a vampire was a huge decision, I don't think I had a choice though. I put my hand on my neck to feel my pulse.
"Okay, I'll do it." I said.
Eric stood up and walked to the door. "Follow me."
