Not Over You

I sit on the roof, staring down at the passing cars. It's beautiful, the commotion. The people that talk and laugh, smile and walk.

My heart tugs in my chest, and I realize that Nick is walking with HER again.

Taylor grins, laughs, and the two talk and flirt playfully.

I stand up, and start pacing along the roof, fury and frustration fueling every step I take.

"Oh, Nick. If you asked me how I'm doing, I would say I'm doing just fine. I would lie and say that you aren't on my mind."

I stared at them, watching them talk and flirt the way we used to.

Yeah, we were never officially an item, but we were so close to it. "Darn...Darn it Nick! You pulled me in, but then you slammed the door. I wish I swore in this moment, because you don't see how much damage you are flipping doing!"

I continued to paced, pulling at my hair and screaming at the sun.

I didn't know why I was screaming at the sun. I just was. I was so upset, I was screaming at the sun.

Donovan came up the stairs, joining me on the roof. His face was tear stained, and he held a large tub of ice cream.

I turned to him, still upset. "WHAT?!" I snapped.

He backed up a little, and I realized I had yelled at him. I looked down, twiddling my fingers guiltily. I look back up, and Donovan is pointing at something over the ledge.

Taylor and Nick smile and giggle at one table, and then, two new people have sat near them.

Emalee and some large muscular Dean Winchester look-alike are canoodling up a storm at the table next to Nick's. Taylor taps Nick, shakes her head towards Emalee and her make-out buddy, and then shakes her head towards... the roof?

Taylor stand up, creeps towards him, and I turn away, crying now. I fall against the side of the ledge, trying desperately to ignore the pain in my heart.

Donovan slumps down next to me, opens the ice cream, and hands me a spoon. I choke out a brief chuckle, and so does he. We cry on each other's shoulders and stuff out faces with ice cream, too scared to look down at the world.

But what I didn't see was the worst part.

Taylor leans in, about to kiss Nick, and Nick shakes his head.

"I'm trying, but I can't do this. It's not you. It will never be you."

He glances up at the roof I sit on.

"I sat at this table for two, but finally, I'm forced to face the truth. No matter what I say, I'm not over her."

He looks at Taylor.

"And you will never, in a million years, be the girl who gets to call me Brick Wall, and share music with. You will never be the girl who loves Portal 2 in an unhealthy way, or the girl who is addicted to Bruce Banner. You may be pretty, but in the end, Aubrey is the girl I've got. And you. Aren't. Aubrey."

He bolts towards the building, but the door to the roof is locked.

"No matter what I say...I promise I'm not over you."
