In the end I win, because Jacob and I end up having a quickie on the couch (actually, it's not very quick) nor is the couch probably the best place to do it...but when there's a will there's a way. I fall asleep on him almost immediately after, completely wiped out. I'm having a weird hazy dream where I'm playing a show in the basement of my childhood home and everyone is booing, and then I'm being shaken awake by Jacob.
"Troye! Troye!"
"What what?" I mumble, slapping him away.
"Wake up, we're going to be late!"
I sit up quickly and nearly ram my head into his in my haste. "What time is it?"
"12:45."
"Shit why didn't you wake me up earlier?"
"I fell asleep! Why didn't you wake me up earlier?"
"Because I fell asleep too!".
Jacob rolls his eyes. "Put your clothes back on, we have to go."
Standing up and pulling my clothes back on, proves to be an uncomfortable task.
""Can you hurry up a bit, please?"
"I'm sore," I tell him, not caring that I'm whining.
"What happened earlier was your idea," Jacob reminds me. I wiggle into my jeans and button them up.
"Yeah but you don't have to be so rough."
He rolls his eyes. "Oh please, like you'd be satisfied with anything less than rough."
I stick my lower lip out in a pout. Jacob comes over to me and cups my face. I lean against him sulkily.
"I'm sorry, that was aggressive." He presses a kiss onto my mouth. "I love you, baby "
Somewhat mollified, I stand up on my tiptoes to kiss him back. He scoops me up and carries out to the car, setting me down in the passenger seat and buckling the belt for me. "When we come back home I'll lay down and give you all the love and attention you deserve, okay?"
I smile up at him. "Okay."
"Are you excited?" Jacob asks me, sliding into his own seat and starting the car.
Today we'll find out the genders of our twins. I shrug. "I'm almost nervous because it feels like a big deal even though it's not really a big deal."
Jake nods. "I know. It's not really going to change anything though, just remember that."
"Well...kind of. As soon as we get genders... we could start thinking about picking names. Shopping for stuff. It seems so much more real."
He laughs. "Every appointment makes it seem so much more real for you Troye."
"Well, it does!" I say defensively.
"I know I know. Just another day to cross off a long list of days. We're getting closer." He takes my hand and kisses my knuckles before starting to back out of the driveway.
Even with Jacob speeding just a bit we're still 10 minutes late to the appointment. It doesn't really matter though, because so is Charlie.
"Took a nap. Overslept," she says apologetically. I grin at her.
"It's okay, us too."
"Really? I'm pregnant, what's your excuse? Oh, hey. Babies are kicking."
She grabs our hands and places them on her now sizable stomach. Flutters of movement can be felt just under her skin. I've been able to feel them kick a few times now but it never ceases to amaze me. Dr. Avery pokes her head out from her office.
