"So you went from living in an apartment with who you describe to be the most 'amazing' woman you'd ever met, to being kicked out here on the street with Lauren, who apparently got kicked out of her own house weeks ago but failed to mention that at all of our NA meetings?" Demi stated as she began to put all of the pieces together.

I shrugged. "Sounds about right."

We had picked up some coffee at a local shop, and were now sitting on the curb right in front of the alley where I was sure Lauren was still sound asleep in.

"What have you learned from this?" Demi asked me. "And be honest with me, Dinah."

"How do you feel about drugs now that this has all happened?"

Scoffing a bit, I gave her my reply.

"I honestly don't even know why I'm still doing them. I was finally happy with Camila, and yet I proceeded to throw all of that away again. I'm a terrible person, that's all there is to it."

"I'm still chasing that first high." I explained. "And I haven't quite found it. Or more accurately speaking, I'm looking even though I know I'll never find it again."

Demi nodded at this, then turned her gaze to the street.

"You're not a terrible person." she said. "You've just done some terrible things, but they don't have to define who you are."

I let those words sink in.

I don't have to let them define who I am.

What an incredible power, to be able to define yourself. That was the first time I really thought about it.

"How about this." Demi began to propose, "Why don't you join me on a little trip to the local hospital real quick? I have to check up on a friend of mine, and I heard he's not doing well."

I cocked an eyebrow. That didn't even have anything to do with me.

Demi must've caught my confused expression, because she began waving her hands dismissively.

"You'll understand why I'm taking you when we get there. Will Lauren be alright?"

Hah. I totally forgot Lo existed for a whole minute.

"Is it okay if I just throw her and our stuff into your car? Just to be safe?" I asked.

I definitely didn't feel safe leaving her there, not around the part of town we were in.

Demi shrugged. "Sure, I got plenty of room in the back."

I nodded at this, and proceeded to gather up all of my things.

Handing Demi a few bags, I scooped Lauren up bridal style while somehow managing to hold a few more items in my hand while doing so.

"Let's go." I said.

With that, we piled all of Lauren and I's belongings into the car, and I practically tossed the green eyed girl into the back as well.

But Lauren being the amazingly talented girl she is, she was still asleep even after making a rough landing.

"All right." Demi huffed with a smile. "We're all set, then."

I got into the passenger side, and she began to drive off into the night towards the hospital.

Once we arrived, I followed Demi into the building.

"Do you think Lauren will be fine there? What if she wakes up?" she asked me as we were walking.

I waved dismissively at her. "Pfft, she won't. Trust me."

It was true. When Lauren was asleep, she was asleep for a while.
