Mia's POV
Jacob.
"Mia, are you there?"
"Yeah, I'm here." I breathed. Hearing my best friends voice again made me so much happier.
"Just wanted to warn you that I'm coming to see you."
"Oh my god that's great, when will you be here?"
"In about an hour. Can you come get me from the airport when I land?"
"Of course I can. I'll see you in an hour then?"
"Yep. Bye Mia." And he hung up.
I put my phone on the counter and then started jumping around happily. Carter gave me a strange look and held me still by putting his hands on my shoulders.
"Who is visiting?" He asked me.
"My friend Jacob!" I squealed and his hands gripped my shoulders just a tin bit harder.
"That's great." I could hear the fake enthusiasm in his voice.
"Don't lie Carter, you're jealous." Matt called him out from he sofa.
"Yeah, so what if I am?" Carter let go of my shoulders, leaving me free to jump around again.
"We should make cake! Not necessarily for Jacob but because I really want cake." I went to the kitchen and started gathering cake ingredients.
"Is your oven even functional?" Carter asked, wandering into the kitchen.
"Yes, of course it is." I answered, secretly checking if it actually was working because I hate being wrong.
"I'm going to help." He announced, taking a seat at the island counter.
"I don't need your help."
"You burned an oven pizza." He pointed out, adding sass to his tone.
"Because you distracted me." I reminded him.
"You probably would have burned it anyway." He stared right at me with a smug grin.
"I would not have burned an oven pizza you cocky little shit. Are you going to help me or not?" He chuckled at my irritable nature and started searching for different ingredients in the cupboards.
"You sound like an old married couple!" Matt called from the living room, his response slightly delayed.
"Piss off Matthew!" I jokingly called back and I heard him chuckle.
We had finally and successfully put the cake in the oven after forty minutes of quarrelling over the quantities that were being put into the mixture.
"Hey Mia." Carter called as I was putting away the sugar. I turned to face him and got a handful of powdery flour in my face. I coughed to rid the flour from my nose and wiped it away from my eyes.
"Carter Reynolds, you did not just start a food fight!" I screamed as he ran away with a bag of flour in his hands.
"Yes ma'am I did!" He shouted back, ducking behind the island. I grabbed the box of eggs and threw one over the counter, not really aiming for anywhere.
"You just ruined my hair!" Carter whined from the other side of the counter.
"Whoops!" I laughed and threw another egg but it landed on the floor somewhere else.
"Nice shot!" Carter said sarcastically.
"Piss off, I can't see where I'm throwing." A cloud of flour descended on my side, landing on the floor in front of me, a small portion landing on my foot.
