"I forgot how beautiful it looks as we're landing. It's been too long."
I lean over Brad's seat to look out the plane window. We're about to land in Cabo for our first post-Zane vacation and I couldn't be more excited to get away with Brad, even if it is just a few days.
"You're like a child looking for Disney," Brad laughs as he pulls me on his lap "This is going to be perfect. Finally just us for a little and we get to sleep in and not share our food..."
"And we get the bed to ourself, and we can drink."
"We're really sad people, Jen."
"I know, babe. We really are." I lean into him as we continue to watch the land getting clearer. The inviting ocean glistens in the sun as the waves crash up the shore. We can even see our resort, the same one we always stay in since it has the most privacy.
And then we land. And it's hotter than hell on fire. And my hair is a crazy mess.
"When are we meeting up with Ellen and Portia?" Brad throws all our bags on the bed, laying with them "I need to do some exercises before getting changed."
"Yes, you're the one that needs to worry about exercise." I roll my eyes walking towards the bathroom to change "I'm scared to even look at the mirror."
"You look fine. I'm not complaining."
He follows me in, walking past me to pee. I put on the top, tying the strings and turning towards him for his opinion.
"You look great, perfect."
"And I would believe you if you actually looked up." I quickly take that top off, rummaging through my suitcase to find another "This is so unfair. I should be able to hand the weight off to you or the baby after I'm done."
"You look like you just ate dinner. I really don't see a problem." He steps into his swim trunks without caring at all, grabbing a towel "I think you should wear whatever you feel comfortable in. You had a baby less than 2 months ago, you're allowed to look it."
"I know that, I don't mind looking like it, I just don't want it plastered everywhere."
We head out to find Ellen and Portia on their deck waiting for us. They have a pool with some pretty amazing looking food and drinks sitting out.
"Thank you so much for inviting us!" I hug them each on our way in, setting the alcohol we brought with us on the table.
"We've missed you guys so much! It's been way too long."
We all sit down across from each other, them together with me sitting on Brad's lap, taking in all the semi alone time we can get.
"It's so beautiful here, I miss just picking up and flying here whenever we want." I lean into Brad, taking a drink off the table "We really need to get out more."
"But those kids... I don't know how you can leave without missing them too much."
"Oh we do, but we've been missing each other. It's amazing how you can live and sleep together but really not see each other." Brad wraps his arms around me tightly, stealing my drink "And it's nice to not yell at a child for a few days."
"Or have them follow you around everywhere."
Ellen and Portia laugh, unfamiliar with everything we're talking about, but surprisingly still listening to us.
"So we thought we could all go out later, find a nicer bar or something."
"A bar? You mean like stay up past 10?"
