Spring
It was well past sunset before Lyra came back with small bags of food along with some fire wood.
"You eat berries right?"
I nodded making her smile as she hands me one of the animal skinned bags while she began to make a fire. I watch as she pulls out chunks of meat before sticking them on a few pointy sticks while she hovered them over a fire as they begin to cook.
"So first question. How did you get here?"
"A boat. And a helicopter."
"Helicopter?"
"You don't know what that is?" She shook her head as I begin to think on how to explain what a helicopter was.
"Well. A helicopter is a big metal machine that lets you be able to fly from place to place." She seemed to be more confused making me sigh heavily as I laughed nervously.
"Sorry I can't exactly explain stuff to Well. Do you have any other questions?"
"Why are you here? What where you and your father doing?"
"We where going on an adventure."
"An adventure?"
"Yeah. You see my father is an Archaeologist. He's a person who discovers stuff that may or may not be real. He tends to go on these expeditions with a much larger group of people but my birthday is actually coming up so he decided to take my mother and I with him. Of course my mom couldn't come because of her job but she says she'll try to be here in two weeks."
"So more of you are coming?"
"Just my mom. You know I should really go back and check on my dad."
"You can't."
"And why not?"
"Because your father is dead."
My world began to slow down as tears threatened to spill.
"Y-You're lying!"
"I'm not. I went to check on him when I went back to my village. The arrows he was attacked with were poisoned."
"P-Poisoned?"
"Its a liquid like substance that slowly kills the person who comes in contact with it."
"Mom! What are you doing here?"
I look up towards the women who was staring at me intently. Making me shrink a bit as she glared harshly at Lyra.
"Are there anymore of them?"
"No. H-Her fathers dead. But she said her mom will be here in two weeks to meet up with them."
"God damn it Lyra! When were you going to tell me about this?!"
"I thought if I told you then I was afraid you where kill her."
"She's a kid Lyra. I would be called a monster if I where to kill her. But she can't stay with our pack. We have been at war with her kind many times in the past."
"But.."
"But nothing."
I was confused. Was I not allowed to stay here anymore?
"What if I was the one to take care of her and make sure she doesn't do anything stupid around our village. Could she stay then? She's a kid like me mamma. What harm could she possibly do?"
Lyra's mom was in deep thought as her dark brown wolf ears twitched before she sighed heavily as she studied me more.
"If you can get everybody to accept her she can stay. But that's only until her people come back for her."
I looked towards Lyra as her tail begin to wag back and fourth out of excitement.
"Honestly. I don't know why you find this girl so amusing."
"Come on. I'll introduce you to the village."
It was a bit of a walk to the village but once we where there everybody wouldn't stop staring at me which made me a tad bit nervous as I made sure no more tears where falling.
"Everyone this is Spring. Her father died by Maria and she will be staying with us until her people come to get her. Are there any objections?"
Everybody shook there heads no making me a bit more relaxed until I realized that they started to surround me out of interest.
Unknown- "Where's her ears and tail? Is she really an outsider?"
"She is. But she's not like the men with guns."
After their excitement died down I was able to go to bed but had to share one with Lyra to which I didn't mind. She was actually really warm which made me snuggle up to her to try and get away from the cold.
"Hey Lyra. Who's Maria?"
"She's a monster you needn't to worry yourself over. As long as you stay within this village your safe."
