Chapter 1 - New Fellow

All right, this is it. My first day as cop and I am definitely excited. Man, I hope I manag-...

My train of thoughts was suddenly rudely interupted with loud *yawn*.
Yeah I know, but hey it's 7:30 AM and I've never been morning person anyway.

Fortunately I arrive to the Police Headquarter or, as our teachers on Academy said, HQ, according letter I obtained a few days back I should meet with Cheif Beifong, no, not that Beifong, but her daughter, Lin.

First thing I saw was a small reception with friendly looking young lady behind it, I needed some directions so I went talk to her.

"Good morning, can I help you somehow?" asked lady.

"Good morning, actually, I am looking for Chief, you see, I am new and-"

Before I could respond, voce interupted me, voice that you have to respect.

"Hey kid."

"Chief Beifong!" spitrits help me, my superior probably just gave a heart attack.

"Are you alright? You seem pale."

Luckily I find my voice quickly and successfully answered
"Y-yes Cheif, don't worry about me. Anyway, my name is (Y/N) and I am supposed report to you."

"I am aware of who you are, let's continue this talk in my office, shall we?"

"I am right behind you Ma'am."

As we walk through whole HQ, I couldn't help but wonder, if I can fit in. I hope, but hey, only time will tell.

When we came to Chief's office, there already was someone waiting. When he saw us, I am pretty sure it's male, he standed up and make a couple of steps toward us.

As far as I can tell, this stranger is tall and fit, although not as tall as me, and wearing different uniform then rest without those wire boxes on his sides. He has fair skin, dark hair, no facial hair and eyes colored by interesting combination of amber and green.

My guess - firebender.

"Before we start, (Y/N) please meet Lee." Chief said to me.

Alright, this is going to be interesting.

"It's nice to meet you Lee."

I tried not to sound anxious, more like friendly, altough I am not sure how it works, because he still kept his neutral mask.

"Nice to meet you, too"

He had deep, neutral voice. I hope Chief will tell me something interesting about him, since he seem like he won't do this by himself.

After a while, when two of us just stare at each other, Chief finally spoke again.

"Please, take a seat, you will have plenty of time later."

"Chief, if I want to know why I am here, you know I have a job" Seems like he don't give a fuck. Maybe becouse of his firebender heart, I'll see.

"No, you don't. Last person you worked with complained about you-"

Yeah, I almost forgot, this is Beifong,

"-so thats mean you will work with (Y/N) here."

It took me a while to realize what was she saying, as well as this Lee fellow, but then both of us blurt on the same time.

"What?!"

"You heard correctly, Lee you are a good cop, but hard to handle, becouse of your temper. It's not even a year and nobody wants to work with you already."

There was short silence since Chief satrted to speak again

"I believe that working with nonbender will ease those problems."

"I'm sorry Chief, but you know I'm always saying what I think, no more, no less. And besides, rookie here'll need someome more experienced than me to teach him."

Ow, man, you know I have name.

"I am completely aware of that, but I believe you are experienced enough. After all, (Y/N) is nonbender, so he won't work well with metalbenders as well, and you, as only firebending-"

BOOM, what did I say!

"-cop in Republic City so far will be more than capable."

"But Chief-"

"My decision is final. Take it as an order." Reacted Chief with raised voice

After that, Lee silenced himself and sat back, but I think he is fuming.

Chief turn her attention on me.

"I already know your skills, but I still want to hear it directly from you."

Oh man.

"Of course Ma'am. Besides fist fighting, I am also rather skilled chi-blocker, if I say so myself and have some experience with swords."

"If by 'rather skilled' and 'some experiences' mean that you were able to take down any of yours classmates and even a few intructors, than yes, I agree. I've also heard about your laso abilities, which may be almost as good on arresting criminals as cables of my metalbenders."

"Thanks Ma'am and yes, I am able to keep up with others."

Or at least I hope so, since it seems that I am only able to arrest people and don't have to go too close to them.

"Good. Lee, do you have some guestions on your partner?"

He looked like he was considering something and then spoke.

"Yes, do you know how to strike from afar? No offence, but sword and chi-blocking is realy close combat and laso won't be effective."

"Yeah, I can throw daggers as well, not as master, but precisely enough."

I just hope both of them will take it as an answer, becouse again, I am a nonbender and throwing daggers is only such thing I know.

"Good, sounds like in the end you will be able to work together. (Y/N) please before you leave, visit armory in basement, they are already informed about you arrival and should have prepared some equipment for you. Everything clear?"

We answered on the same time.

"Yes Ma'am"

"Good. You start tomorrow 7:00 AM. Dismissed."

 
Lee's POV:

Finally is this stupid meeting behind me.

I have to admit, that new member seems interesting, plus he's nonbender, this is definitely going to be fun.

Well, it went well. I meet some new fellow and apparently we'll spend a good deal of time together. I just hope he's not an asshole.

Now I think I'm free to go home, my duty starts tommorow as I was told and it would be awesome if I don't overslept. Spirits, I am so looking forward my bed.

Oh, yeah. I almost forgot. Armory.
