Chapter 2 - Equipment

Your POV:

After Chief dismissed me I went to find an armory. It took me a while, since I've never been there, but with a little bit of help and counless wrong turns, I manage to get here.

Armory itself is rather big room located in basement, west wing.

When I step in, I was greeted by quite big officer with absent expression which was immediately replaced with pretty exceted one.

"Oh, you must be that new officer. Nonbender, right. I heard it a lot during past days."

I was a tad taken aback by his change, but decidet just to go with it.

"Y-Yes sir, my name is (Y-"

"No names, I believe we both know why are you here, since you still need your stuff, right?"

Okay, right to the core of the problem, cool.

"Of course sir, Chief informed me you are already aware."

He just chuckled at my answer.

*chuckle*
"Yeah, I am aware of you."
*chuckle*
"Here you go."

With that, he pat big box on desk next to him.

"This is directly for you. You know, a nonbender working in this facility is more than unusual, so you may need some time to learn how to work with it."

During his speech he used one of his beefy hand to push box toward me.

"Thanks"

Wow, good freaking job brain. This is best you can do?!

Inside was completely black uniform with a little bit of grey, very similiar to normal metalbender's outfit, I took note about Lee's outfit, which is pretty much the same, together with pair of heavy black boots with hardened sole.

"Cool"

I couldn't help but say it a tad out of breath, which cause storeman to chuckle again.

"It's yours, and if you think this is cool, picture whot is underneath."

I immediately lift uniform, but before I gave it last quick glance. Of coure it's cool, but maybe I make a few tweaks.

Underneath I found something I honestly never expect - two sets of wires, as well as three nice throwing daggers.

"What, don't you like what you see?"
*chuckle*

Maybe I was looking a little bit too surprised.

"Not at all sir, just wasn't expecting weapon of metalbenders"

"I see, well, Chief inform me about your skills and mentioned your lasso ability, plus throwing daggers, sword and chi-blocking-"

I guess it makes sence now.

"-and since I couldn't get any sword, only a few daggers, I get an idea, that you may be able to use wire instad of rope. It's alright if you don't want them thought."

It took me a while to process this kind of information, but he does have a point, it could work. And if not, I can still use these parts on something else. However, upgrading it would be much more fun.

"Don't worry about it. I'll take them, may be useful."

With my words he visibly relaxed, if huge smile that appears on his face is something to go by.

"Great, now I need you to one last thing, please sing this paper up and you can take it over."

I sing up on all places he showed me and then one more paper. Spirits, I'm realy looking forward trying all this cool stuff.

"Now, when we have formalities done, do you have some guestions besides the protocol?"

I thought for a moment and than decided to ask, after all, this is probably my only chance before we start to work together.

"Uhm, yes. Do you know Lee?"

I watched as this mountain of man tensed. I'm not so small myself, being a few inches taller than Mako is, or at least I always was, I haven't seen them in a while, spirits I miss them, but I started to feel a tiny bit nervous.

"Y-you don't have to answer if you don't want."

"Nah, it's good. You see, I worked with him. He's not a bad cop, maybe a little irresponsible, but I guess, that's becouse he's younger. Long story short, we made some mistakes, big and small, but that doesn't matter anymore."
*sight*
"Anyway, it's almost 12:00 and I realy don't want miss my lunch break, so if you won't mind going-"

He trailed off a tad in the end, but I get a point, he wasn't happy whatever it was and I am not happy becouse my new collegue doesn't seem like best person so far.

"N-not at all." I finally manage to say.

"Good, we will probably see each other whenever you will need some stuff, Rookie." He anwered with smile.

Good, that means I didn't piss him off. On the other hand - Rookie?! Seriously?! Oh well, I am new, so I better get used to it.

"Yeah, goodbye."

"Farewell."

And with that I left, with my stuff of course, it would be realy embarrassing to go back.

With quick glance on clock I find out that is already 11:56. Good to know he didn't lie, at least in this.

Speaking of, I am hungry as well and noodle lunch sounds realy good to me.

Phew, today wasn't one of my worst days, far from it actually. Right now I'm back in my garage what I call my home.

Yeah, maybe I can afford something better, I am probably getting senile.

I like my inventions and stuff on one place, besides I'm trying to keep it clean and I am used to it. Did I already mentioned this place has a running bathroom and roof with nice view on Air Temple Island. I'm not joking, I've got probably nicest view on sunsets in this whole city. And it's located in docks, so during day is there decent activity, but with nightfall it's peacful and quiet. Just the way I like it.

Anyway, after I finished my noodles, I came back home to try all my new stuff.

My uniform fits me and is confortable. It's whole made of cotton, which is good, but I am thinking about something already.

You see, standard officer has metal armor. My point - metal is conductive. I know, only some firebenders can redirect and generate lightning and someone as lightningbender is just a fairy tale, but still, if I use rubber or similiar material, I can be immune. That would be cool.

Boots are good, but a little too heavy, since chi-blocking is more about speed and accuracy, I am going to need lighter one.

Daggers... well, there isn't much I can say. Common, but good balanced and solid. I guess these are made from platinum - nonbendable, which is good, very good actually.

I've my own swords. Two of them and Chief didn't say I can't use them. I'll see, maybe later, may be useful to have something up my sleeve.

And finally wires. I've been thinking almost whole day how to use them best and I have few ideas, but until I decide for one of them, I am going to use them as laso.

Alright, it's almost 22:30. I should go and get some sleep, tomorrow is my first day in duty with Lee and I realy don't want to be late.
