Lovely Little Liar

{ 7. New Captain }

"Hey! Are you ready?" Kathlyn was greeted by her friend, Alice. "Of course, I think." Kathlyn replied.

"Oh, don't fret. You'll snatch that title. I can feel it with my beauty powers." Alice said.

Kathlyn and Alice started warming up and then Bridgette entered the gym.

"Good luck to you, Evans." Bridgette told the brunnette in a mocking tone. Alice raised her eyebrow at the red-head ready to pummel her but Kathlyn just grabbed her friend and smiled at Bridgette.

"Okay girl! Let's start." The team's coach said and the girls gathered around her. "As you all know, we have here Bridgette McLaurin and Kathlyn Evans who are competing for the position of this team's captain. I'll be giving them both 2 minutes to showcase their individual routines and a minute to have a showdown. Then we'll all decide later." The coach explained, then she looked around waiting for any violent reaction or comment from the crowd. When no one said anything, they all dispersed to the bleachers except Bridgette. The red-head did a seductive and sexy, but smooth and powerful routine, earning applause from the crowd. While the red-head was performing, Rosewood High's basketball team entered the gym.

"What are you guys doing here? We have this gym for our training today." The coach told Mark Winslets, captain of the basketball team.

"Don't worry coach, we are just here on a break. We won't disturb you. We promise." Mark reasoned and all his teammates agreed so the cheerleading team's coach decided to just allow the boys to stay there.

Ethan sat behind Kathlyn. "Hey." Kathlyn looked at her back and noticed Ethan there. "Hi." She said definitely not in the mood for pleasantries. "You're gonna nail it. I swear."

The brunette stared at him. "I hope I have that confidence." Ethan touched Kathlyn's back, assuring the girl that she's gonna do good. Before they can even continue their conversation, Bridgette's performance has ended without them noticing. The cheerleading team's coach called for Kathlyn and Ethan gave the girl a reassuring smile and a thumbs up.

Kathlyn's performance is the opposite of Bridgette's, she showed a very cool, energetic, flowy yet powerful dance routine. At one part of her dance, she found her gaze meeting Ethan's eyes and the guy gave her a nod. Kathlyn's performance ended and received a round of applause from the audience. The coach decided to not continue the showdown round since she has chosen the new team captain, but before announcing, she asked the girls first to isolate themselves from the rest of the audience so they can deliberate.

"That's a good show." Kathlyn told Bridgette but the red-head returned it with a scowl.

"Okay girls. Come here!" Kathlyn and Bridgette walked back to where their coach is. Kathlyn feeling nervous saw that Ethan was smiling really happily to her, and before she can even smile back, her coach told her that she's the new team captain.

After that, everyone was already leaving, well, except the basketball team since they still have to do their last round of training before they get to leave. Kathlyn was on her way out if the gym when Ethan stopped her. "Good job. Ms. Captain." Ethan jokingly told Kathlyn.

"Thanks, too. If it weren't for you, my nerves would have eaten my routine alive." Kathlyn replied.

"Hey Ethan!" Ethan was not able to reply to Kathlyn because his coach called for him already. The two bid goodbyes to one another and they went their own ways.

Kathlyn stopped by the Apple Rose Grille to take out some food, while waiting for her order, Spencer walked up to her.

"I was gonna email you once I get home." Kathlyn looked up from her cellphone and greeted the girl hello, she then glanced at the table where she thinks Spencer came from and saw Melissa, Spencer's father, and a stranger.

"Who's that?" Kathlyn asked, pertaining to the stranger.

"Melissa's fiance." Spencer told her.

Kathlyn shrugged and looked back at the table again. "Is he as uptight as Melissa?"

Spencer chuckled at her friend's question. "No one's as uptight as Melissa." After a while, Spencer said goodbye to her friend and went back to their table.

Kathlyn has reached home but her grandmother's already asleep, so she went to her brother's room and found him still awake, playing games.

"Knock knock." Jackson looked up from his laptop and greeted his sister. "How was it?" Jackson asked, talking about her cheerleading position battle.

"Good! I am the new captain!" Kathlyn said aloud while hopping to her brother's bed. "I also ordered takeout, it's there on the table. Ill get ready to bed now. Good night."

"Oh Kath!" Kathlyn was about to head out of Jackson's bedroom but Jackson stopped her. "Yes?"

"I don't think you know yet but gran wants us home early tomorrow." Jackson informed his sister

"Why?" Jackson just shrugged. "Visitors." Kathlyn gave her brother a thumbs up.
