Delilah ran away.

Mom and Dad

were in the middle

of smothering me

with 'love',

and wouldn't leave me alone.

Delilah came in the front door

sobbing.

She mumbled,

"Mom... Dad..."

in between her gasps for air.

But they ignored her.

I stared at her,

trying to ask her what was wrong,

but the words were stuck in my throat.

So when nobody acknowledged her,

she turned away,

and ran out the door.

That's when the words escaped my throat.

"Delilah!" I screamed.

I pushed passed my parents,

and ran out after her.

It was dark

and stormy.

And suddenly,

I remembered the forecast

that had been on the news

for a couple of days now.

Hurricane Jordan

was barrelling towards Florida,

and it was supposed to hit

tonight.

* * *

I saw her form running down the street,

so I started running after her,

my mouth suddenly spewing words

like a never ceasing fountain.

Words like these...

"Delilah! Wait!

Delilah,

what's wrong?!

Delilah please!"

Suddenly I was really grateful

for all the runs

I'd forced myself on.

I could probably catch up with her.

Because even though she was a fast runner,

she didn't have the stamina

to keep running

forever.

But sometimes

I forget

the things that grief can do to you.

I forget the extent

that you will go to

to forget about the pain.

And,

I forgot that

grief can make you do things

you wouldn't normally do.

Like run into a hurricane.

quick authors note! the song attached is one of my favorites that I love by Christina Perri, and it goes really well with the story! Check it out:)

(Okay so I've noticed it doesn't work when I go on my phone, so look up the song The Lonely by Christina Perri. That's the song that is attached to the side but won't play.)
