Chapter Ten
Black.
My voice finally gives in and my mind finally gives up.
I dream a memory:
Steps, bridge, footsteps. Blurs of black ram into me and drag me away. Off the bridge, down the steps and brought back out into the road. The van waits for me. Throw me in, I don't care. Van drives and I see my kidnappers. This is not really new to me but what is is the feeling I experienced as I saw their faces; pure happiness runs over my body but then I realise where I am and what they could do to me. Fear and panic now out run the excitement. I stay silent until Ray reaches closer to me and pulls a blind fold over my eyes; a scream escapes my lips and trembling fingers reach up to rip off the mask but strong hands stop me and tie them together behind my back.
The van drives and drives. We stop and I am dragged out and carried. The air around is bitterly cold. I hear an engine start up. Much louder than a car. Maybe a truck? Wrong. I found out how wrong I was when someone walks up steps and throws me into a leather seat and straps me in.
New voices surround me but I don't listen. All I can hear is my pulse in my ears, pumping and thumping as fast as it can. It feeds my fear.
I find it out it's a plane as I feel that stomach churning nudge deep inside me as we leave the ground. Flying is not a good thing to experience especially when I have my sight restricted. I need to get away, I need to see, I need to be sick, I need to know, and I need-
'Vicky, Vicky! Please...wake up!' Gerard shouts in my ear. I jump awake. I am cold but I sweat. I shake uncontrollably. 'You're awake! I thought you were having a fit, you were shaking so much. Nightmare?' I look at him blankly and try to remember what my brain showed me. 'Yeah, no. Kind of.' I answer with an uncertain shaking voice.
'What was it about?'
'I remember the plane and how you got me there. I mean, I remember the bridge but I now know how you got me in the van and drove to the plane. But what scared me, well, shocked me, was how I felt when I realized it was you guys. I was excited but then everything inside me went black and died. Fear took over after that.'
'The look in your eyes was said to be heart crushing and mind breaking. I was driving but Ray and Frank got the full on stare from big blue eyes filled with love to big dead eyes filled with pure terror.' He looks into my eyes in the darkness of the night and tries to imagine the stare I gave but he fails.
I can't stop shaking and now I won't sleep. Even with Gerard there, the nightmare did not step down. I sit up and stare at nothing. 'Aren't you tired?' Gerard asks from behind me.
'Yes, I am exhausted but I can't sleep now. Even with you here it came.' I say with no expression. 'That wasn't really a nightmare though,' he sits up and I turn to him sharply, 'it was a memory and your mind will keep finding them and won't stop until you remember everything. I stop the nightmares; not the memories.' He says and puts his hand on my back. I look away and say with sadness edging the sentence, 'I don't wanna remember Gerard.' He doesn't say anything however he pulls me into an embrace and allows me to collapse into him.
Light spikes at my eyes and they leap open. Gerard lightly snores on my shoulder. I slept and nothing interrupted it. Maybe I'll get one memory a night if I wake up.
Gerard starts to stir and his eyes flicker open and focus on mine. 'Good morning beautiful.' He whispers with sleep slick in his throat. I blush and look away. 'We woke up on time today. Achievement unlocked!' I say with sarcasm. Gerard smiles and closes his eyes again.
I jab him in the chest. He opens his eyes and smirks at me. There is a slight glint in his eyes. Shit is about to go down. He suddenly jumps up and pins me down. I am now stuck and can't help but scream out with laughter as he starts to tickle me until I cry. I kick out but he won't stop. My arms flop out and yet, he won't stop. I literally scream STOP but he won't stop. I laugh/scream like a donkey and then I snort like a pig. I have the most attractive laugh going.
