Chan

"You like her, don't you?" Noona linked arms with me as we walked out of the mall.

"Of course I do."

We came to an intersection and waited for the pedestrian sign to go green.

"You know what I mean," she nudges my side lightly. "You like her. As in like, like her."

"Yeah, I like her." I start walking causing her to walk too. "As in I have feelings for her."

She chuckles lightly. "Why don't you go for it?"

"Because," we turned a corner, nearing the block Aera and I live on. "I won't be here for much longer anyway. There's no point."

She went silent after that and she knew I was right. She still understands my point of view on things. She wasn't a cliche like most girls. If she was, she would be pushing me to go for it anyway.

'Love has no distance.'

'Distance is just a number.'

'With love you can get through anything.'

Yeah right. I'm not one to be a negative person but that's just not something I was into. Partly because I knew I couldn't handle it. And mostly because I wouldn't want the other person to feel lonely all the time.

Once we were outside Aera's house, Nari noona asked if we could all come inside. "I miss this place," she said.

Aera was more than happy to welcome us in.

As always, her mother gushes at how handsome I keep getting.

I give her a smile and she just pinches my cheeks.

Aera then introduced the two girls to her then off we went upstairs into her room.

"It's so much cuter than how I used to have it!" Nari noona gushes at Aera's room.

"This is what you look like but as a bedroom," Sunny noona admires Aera's small displays on her shelves. "Cute and cozy."

Aera just giggles at her two unnie's. She shows them her things and tells them stories about her childhood. She then goes over to one corner and shows them the things she made in her metal workshop class.

Meanwhile, I just lay sideways on her bed, watching and listening to everything she does and says.

After a while they all decide to sit on the floor and talk about girl things I didn't understand. Slowly, I fell asleep.

Aera

After a while of sitting on the floor and talking none stop, I hear Chan snoring.

We look over to the bed and there he was, curled up in a ball, almost falling off the edge. We laughed quietly to ourselves.

"Anyway," Sunny unnie starts again. "What are you going to be doing after high school? It's your last year, isn't it?"

I shift a little, feeling uncomfortable about the topic. It was embarrassing how poor I was compared to these two unnie's. "Yeah, it's my last year..."

"Which university did you want to go to?" Nari unnie asks.

I actually didn't think about that since I was just focused on earning enough money to go to one.

"I go to Korea University," Sunny unnie says proudly. "I'm studying law."

Korea University was one of the most prestigious school's in the country.

I suddenly envied her a lot. I turn to Nari unnie, "what school do you go to?" I asked trying to avoid the question.

She shrugs casually. "I don't go to school. I work full time since I want to get my brother into Art School. My drunkard father can't do it himself."

It was horrible but that made me feel better. Not because of the father thing, but because now I know that I wasn't the only one struggling out of all of us. I always thought these two might have lived lavish lives seeing the way they dressed and the way they acted. I guess not. Maybe now I could open up about my financial struggles.

"It's alright though. I like my job," she smiles happily. "But back to you, where do you want to study?"

"Actually, I don't know yet. Or if I even will since we can't afford it." I felt unexpectedly emotional talking about it. "That's the only reason I have a part time job, so I can earn money and save up just in case I do want to go."

The two unnie's look at each other.

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Sunny unnie asks the other.

"Yeah but..."

"I know... but..."

"Mmm..."

After every pause, they make a different face at each other as if it finished off the sentence.

"What exactly are you two-" I started to say but they both abruptly stand up.

"We have to go to work now!" Sunny unnie takes her best friend's hand. "Text us if you need anything, we love you, muah!" She blows me a kiss then hurriedly walks towards the door.

Nari unnie waves, "we'll see you soon hopefully!"

Just like that, they were both out of sight.

Weird... I get up then walked over to the bed where Chan was still snoring. I push him lightly causing him to mutter while rolling over to his other side. "Don't fall off you big baby," I chuckled.

Chan

I woke up facing the opposite way from where I fell asleep. I rolled back the other way coming face to face with Aera.

She was so close I ended up bumping her off the bed. She lands on the floor with a thud and then a groan.

I slap myself mentally for my stupidity then slowly slid over to the edge and peeked down at her.

Annoyance was written all over her face.

"Sorry..."

She sighs, "I was having such a good nap."

I push myself off the bed, got onto the floor and laid down beside her. "When I come back from America next. I don't know when, but when I do, promise me you'll still be here." I hold up a pinky.

She holds hers up too, "if you promise to come back then yeah."

I hope she's better at keeping promises than Song Nari.
