Mean Lab Coat

"Jessa?" I heard a familiar voice call. My head snapped up as I heard the footsteps approaching quickly. A thud sounded as he knelt to the ground next to me. I turned my head to look at him and my eyes widened. My ears weren't playing tricks on me. I felt tears rushing down my cheeks as an almost silent sob erupted from my throat as I placed the kitten next to me and launched myself into Connors arms. "Shh, shh" he tried calming me pulling me closer to him. "Nothing's gonna hurt you. Not while I'm around" he whispered

"But, the room and the cuffs and the needles...I, I, I" I tried speaking but couldn't

"They were trying to run tests to make sure you were okay. You scared me to death when you ran. They almost set out an order to kill you if found. I stopped them saying I'd find you and bring you back."

"But, why? Why do they want us?" I asked

"It's a government installation for people with abilities like ours. We are going to form a team and protect the world from dangers. Think about it, using our powers for good" he whispered.

"Where's Jack, is he okay?" I asked feeling my breathing calming.

"He's Alright. Just a little shaken up. He's talking with the other recruits now." He said softly with a smile. "Who's your little friend?" He asked gesturing to the kitten who was rubbing against my leg.

"I'm naming her shadow. She came in here before you" I said softly rubbing my finger down her head to her tail.

"She's beautiful" he said smiling rubbing her chin. "I know you don't like it, but we have to get you back to that room so they can finish the tests to make sure you are okay" he said gently taking my arm in his picking me up. Shadow followed close behind us as he lead me to the room. I was shaking by the time we reached the room and he asked.

"Do you want me in the room when they do the tests?" He asked. I nodded gratefully and looked terrified as lab coats began to swarm me.

"Connor!" I called

"It's okay Jessa" he called right back holding onto Shadow as I was forced into the white room. I was pulled into the same room as before the bloody needles still laying on the floor as I was pushed onto the table. I close my eyes and tried to calm myself down.

"Jessa, calm down, it's okay" I heard Connor say next to me. My eyes shot open and I looked over to him. He reached out and clasped his hand in mine.

"Kid get out, you can't be in here" a white coat said sternly making Conner give him a pissed look.

"She's gonna freak out if I'm not here, do you really want another episode of when she woke up?" He asked coldly making the white coats eyes widen. He shook his head and turned to me. "How long have you had that birthmark On your back?" The man asked making me raise my brows.

"All my life" I whispered. He hummed and wrote something on his clipboard

"Were you aware you have a second set of bones pressed along your rib cage and down your spine?" He asked making me look at him shocked. I shook my head. He hummed again beginning to annoy me.

"How long have you had your powers?" He asked in a finalizing voice

"A assume all of my life, but I didn't realize them until I was 13" I said quietly after glancing at Conner.

"I have to do one more test on you then you can go to your living quarters clean up and join the rest of your team." The white coat said taking out a needle, the same one that they had pulled out before. I started twitching and felt something warm in my hand glancing down I saw a small glowing light coming from my closed fist. My eyes widened as I began glancing back at the needle just as it plunged into my skin. I hissed and gripped Connors hand making him wince a little bit played it off. I felt whatever fluid that was flow into my skin but felt my cells fight it off and dispose of it quickly.
