I check the time on my cell and then stare at the door; willing Dylan to walk through it. I'm tempted to call him but, I don't want to distract him if he's driving. I'm anxious and feel overwhelmed; my brain is working overtime. Not paying attention to what's going on around me, I don't hear when the nurse calls my name.

"Alexis Porter?"

When the fog finally lifts, and I realize I'm being summoned, I panic. Where is he? I can't do this alone. Finally, I stand and walk over to the nurse as she holds the door open for me.

"Sorry, I guess I was off in space."

"Oh, it's all good."

After taking my weight and noticing that I gained four pounds, she shows me to the room. I sit in the chair and rub my hands together nervously. The nurse takes my blood pressure and temperature, typing the results into a computer. Standing, she glances at me and smiles.

"Ok, so everything looks good. Your temp is slightly elevated but, that's normal in your condition. I will need you to give me a urine sample though, when you're finished, just bring it back in the room and set it here on the counter. The doctor will be in momentarily, he may want to do an ultrasound."

"Ok, thank you. Listen... my boyfriend is supposed to be coming, if he happens to show up..."

"That shouldn't be a problem, when he arrives we'll show him back." She says handing me the cup.

I hate giving urine, no matter how hard I try, I always end up peeing all over my hand. Afterwards, I walk back into the room and sit, waiting anxiously. A few minutes later there is a knock on the door, I'm practically holding my breath when it opens. It's just the doctor.

"Hi Lexi, I'm Doctor Sherpa it's nice to meet you."

"You to." I say, shaking his hand.

I'm on the edge of my seat, I need Dylan to be here now. What if he doesn't show up? What if he decided I'm not worth the frustration? I can't do this alone.

"Well Lexi, based on your results, you're about six weeks along. It looks like your due date is January 14th. You're twenty-six?

"Yes." I say nodding my head.

"Good, good. You're very young still and because you're only six weeks, there won't be any need to do an ultrasound today."

"Are you sure... I mean, what about like an amneo or whatever it's called to check for like abnormalities and stuff.?

I'm stalling, hoping that Dylan will still make it on time but, something tells me it doesn't matter anymore. The appointment is pretty much over and my nervous energy has wore off, I'm just upset that Dylan wasn't here with me. The doctor walks me to the receptionist desk and reminds her to set my appointment. She tells me that my next appointment will be at the end of August and then asks what time of the day is best for me. She hands me the card, August 29th @ 3:30pm. I picked the afternoon because I hope that would work better for Dylan, that is of course if he's still in the picture. Walking out to my car, I glance around the parking lot. I don't see Dylan anywhere, maybe his boss wouldn't let him leave. I decide to call him and let him know that I'm on my way home. Before I put the car into drive, my cell rings.

"Hey, where are you?

"Lex, I'm so sorry, I tried to get off early, but my boss is being a prick. Will you forgive me?"

"It's alright, I mean I wish you had been here but, I understand. Besides, you didn't miss much but, I really want you to be there for the next one, I'll be sixteen weeks and they're doing an ultra sound."

"Wow... really? So, like we can find out what the sex is and stuff?

"Well... yea, I suppose so but, do you really want to know?

"Yea, kind of, don't you?

"Honestly, I don't know. I mean I guess part of me does but, the other part of me wants it to be a surprise."

"I suppose we have some time to think about it."

"Yea... hey, I need to talk to you about some stuff, it's really important. If I cook dinner, will you come by tonight, so we can talk?"

"Yeah, that sounds nice."

"Ok, then I'll see you around seven?"

"Sure, see you then."

On my way home, I stop at the local grocery to pick up a few things that I know I don't have. I park next to a black Mercedes and as I'm getting out my door flies open and hits the Mercedes door.

"Shit."

I glance around the parking lot to see if there are any witnesses but, no one is around. Thank god, I think to myself. I know it's wrong not to claim responsibility but, hey I'm no Bill Gates. I can't afford to have this guy's car repainted. The store doesn't look that busy even though the parking lot seems full. I walk over to the produce and grab the Romaine lettuce; picking out vegetables along the way. I'm about to head toward the meat when I accidently back into someone. Turning to apologize, I look up and my breathe catches.

"Tripp?"
