I woke up to Nick sitting at the table with a newspaper.Ow,
My fucking back hurts"Morning perfect" he glanced over as I rolled myself off the hard floor.
"Please tell me you have cof—what the fuck is that noise?" I asked.
It sounded like a waterfall
"The river, it's like 45 degrees, the snow is starting to melt, and Jess is bringing us our stuff from the shop and coffees from town"
He patted the seat next to me and I sat down, glancing across the property. Wiping the sleep from my eyes. The sun beamed through the pine trees. It was stunning. The cabin was set so far back you could just barely make out the road.
The water ran off the roof and made some cool icicles on the front porch.I glanced around the cabin. For a one bedroom it actually was the perfect size. I got up and went into the bathroom. It was dated but also very cute. It definitely had woman's touches.
I heard the door open and Jessica entered.
"Jesus it's like a mile walk from the road, you guys need a plow!" She laughed as she dropped trash bags full of cloths and her and Nick went back out for another lot of stuff. I walked to the back of the cabin and looked out the big window off the living room. There was a door on the back of the house.
You could see parts of the river down the big hillside. But you could definitely hear it. I unlocked the back door and pulled it open and stepped out.
It was amazing. I stood there in silence for a moment in total awe.
You couldn't hear anything. Just the river, the birds chirping.
It made me think of my moms house in the city. The constant noise. The people walking by. The busses and ambulances.
This was honestly peace and everything I could have ever wanted.I went back inside and Jess and Nick were taking off their coats and sitting down.
"Nice place Flynn!" She smiled.
"Thanks" I smiled sheepishly and sat down.
"Where are you going to get furniture?" She asked.
"Your guess is as good as mine" Nick piped in.
"There is that church in town that has the whole basement as a thrift store. They have everything! It's worth a look anyways"
We thanked her for the advice and sipped our coffees.
"Okay! Onto the next round of business!" She clapped her hands.
"We all need jobs. What the fuck do we do?" She chucked a little.
"Well I mean we just have to start looking" I chimed in.
"What about that other tow company in Sharon?" Nick bit his lip and pondered.
"Worth a call, later problem, anyways!" The caffeine was really hitting Jess.
"Let's get your truck Flynn, and let's go buy some furniture!" She hopped up and scurried to get her coat on.
We followed suit and trudged out the door into the snow.
——-
We picked up my truck and followed Jess over to the little thrift store.
It was in the basement of this massive church. We walked up and down the rows of furniture and just started picking things out. There was a man standing at a register set up on a folding table there.
