Okay so I've made the decision to just slightly tweak the story. I've been back through the chapters and changed some stuff - nothing has changed dramatically enough to warrant having to re-read anything though so don't worry. So the thing I changed was having Percy propose to Annabeth, it made me cringe at how out of character that was when I thought about it so now instead of having and engagement ring, Percy's got a promise ring :) sorry!
ANNABETH'S POV:
Annabeth's nerves seemed to be have been put on a permanent high setting. She thought calm thoughts and ran through plans and plans for her back-up plans in her head but couldn't seem to shake the jitters that had settled in the pit of her stomach.
Rather than spending another day cooped up inside, Annabeth, her friends and the Shadowhunters - excluding Alec and the adults who were still in Idris - were currently gathered outside the Institute where they had Iris-Messaged Camp Half-Blood the previous day. With just two days left now until Valentine attacked they were beginning to become more desperate in their search for answers about the woman in Percy's dream and the identity of Lucy's mother.
Annabeth and Clary had managed to convince Percy and Jace to be guinea pigs for their experiment that afternoon though neither boy had seemed to be particularly pleased about it. Nevertheless they stood side-by-side across from Lucy ready to take whatever their manliness could handle.
"Okay Lucy just focus on Jace and Percy. Try to direct all of the energy you can towards them and we'll see what happens." Annabeth instructed, trying to recall everything she knew about Percy's power over water and the powers that other people she knew had.
Lucy nodded her head at Annabeth's instructions and held her hands out in front of her, palms down. She screwed her eyes shut in concentration and her lips pressed into a thin white line. Annabeth could see her frustration growing from where she stood to the side and watched as Percy walked away from Jace towards the girl. As annoyed as she was at not having the right answer to their problem, Annabeth knew that, for once, this was a problem Percy would be better at handling.
He stood next to her and she opened her eyes to look at him dejectedly. "You've got to really concentrate on what you want to do." He spoke kindly to her and smiled reassuringly "When I use my powers I just focus on the water and it does what I want. I usually feel this kind of tugging in my gut when it happens. Just really focus on Jace and I, don't think too much about what you're doing; think about what you want to happen."
"And don't try to summon a particular thing - don't think about what Percy or I can do; do what feels right for you." Thalia inserted from her reclined position on the grass.
Lucy nodded determinedly at both of them and took a deep breath. Percy moved back to stand next to Jace and they all waited for something to happen. For the next few minutes they stood in silence, watching Lucy stand with her eyes closed in concentration. Annabeth was about to suggest trying something that didn't involve having a power, like the intelligence she had gotten from her mother but as she took a step forward Jace and Percy both doubled over in sync and clutched at their heads as if in pain. Annabeth could only stare worriedly at the two boys who were clearly being affected by Lucy. She wanted nothing more than to go to her boyfriend but knew she would ruin everything if she did.
Jace straightened up first however Annabeth wasn't entirely certain that it was the Jace they knew. The same went for Percy as he straightened and faced Jace. Jace grinned coldy at Percy and pulled a seraph blade out of his boot, spinning it cockily in his hand "How about a rematch on that fight? You wouldn't have won without that Achilles heel of yours. You're not a hero, you're not special or clever - you're a joke." Annabeth's mouth hung wide in shock, as did the others who were all watching the two boys worriedly.
