Melia always felt that the word "optimist " frequently described her very well. She preferred to always look on the bright side of things.
This was needed quite a bit, as Melia constantly frightened the other Kaiju around her with her overly scary and intimidating appearance. Not to mention as the Kaiju of a Demon, she recieved an equal rate of racism from other Kaiju and their wielders.
And, to top it off, because she had chains which could function as limbs, many kaiju treated her with jealousy, as all THEY could do was either hop around, or try to experience the joy of independent movement by looking through the minds of their masters as they walked.
Some of the more scary ones would hijack their master's bodies as they slept and mentally control them like puppets during the night and go for walks. Of course this was against the rules in the Academy, and Kaiju who did that were punished severely by the Kaiju Head Council, a school board organization comprised of the Kaiju of some of the high ranking staff of the school. (their motto: Rules for Kaiju, by Kaiju).
But in any case, Melia always managed to remain happy. Why? Mira, there was just no other way to say it.. she loved her master. Mira may have been a nerd.. a bumbling awkward sort of person.. kind of goofy.. but those were just some parts to add to the lovable traits.. Her kindness, her determination to take responsibility.. and how she had grown to improve herself from a slacker into a hard working person...
Melia loved Mira dearly.. which explained why during the past week.. Melia had turned from her usual optimistic self.. into a quiet, depressed, Kaiju... who was sometimes so quiet and dejected, that she could be mistaken for an ordinary soulless inanimate weapon..
Today, when class finally ended and Melia wound her chains around Vel's back so they could get back to their dorm.. they found their way blocked by Professor Fabian.
"Excuse me you two.. I'm sorry, but might I have a moment?" said Fabian. "Just you two."
"Fine! Don't tell us anything!" said Blaze.
"Don't be such a sourpuss!" Rime said as she leaped out of her holster. "They've got business with Mr. Fabian! It's none of our concern!"
"But Vel's our master! It's got everything to do with-."
"Just go you two.. I'll meet you outside." said Vel as she took Blaze out of his holster and set him down next to Rime.
The two gun blades hopped out the door, and Fabian closed it quietly.
Melia unraveled her chains and hopped onto a chair. Kaiju had 360 degree vision, so she could see everything about the room around her at once.. But seeing like that all the time was kind of headache inducing, so like most kaiju, Melia focused her vision to the forward side of one of her axe blades..
She turned her axe head here and there, looking at Fabian. She always liked to see how the light glinted on his glasses. It comforted her for some reason.. but not today.. today she still felt terrible.
As Vel sat down next to Melia in the desks Fabian sighed and folded his arms, leaning against the front desk of the classroom. "I wanted to ask how Mira is doing.."
"She's... been getting worse." said Vel, bowing her head. "Mr. Fabian.. sir.. she doesn't eat anymore.. she's been getting frailer and frailer. She doesn't talk.. she just sits in bed... I.. I had to stop her from cutting her arm the other day .. she just keeps trying to... to.."
"To die.." murmured Fabian.
"She really believes it.." said Melia, speaking up, for the first time in days. "She really believes Mr. Slater is the Daemon.. "
