King of the forest,
Towering o'er all
Is the Elder Oak.

'Neath him is his Queen.
The bright gem of Fall,
Is the Elder Beech.

Straight and proud stands he,
Needled with deep green,
Who is Elder Pine.

Evergreen is she,
Deepest Winter's Queen:
The Elder Holly.

Shrouded in myst'ry
And mythology
Is the Elder Ash.

Though graceful she be,
More deadly is she
Who is Elder Yew.

Scarlet leaves in Fall,
Then the Summer brings
Green Elder Maple.

Circular leaf on
Her spindly bough clings
To Elder Locust.

She who has cones wee
And needles so sharp
Is Elder Cypress.
