Edward opened his drawer to get some cuffs for his suit when his eyes unintentionally landed on something that caused many of a sleepless nights after he went back from his trip to Ilocos Norte a few weeks ago- a piece of a thin, white lace which originally adorns a woman's dress.
That woman's dress. He thought and almost at that same instant, a beautiful face flashed in his mind.
"Dale." He mused as his lips curved into a sad smile.
From the moment he saw her, he already knew that she was exceptional. That night, her Filipina beauty stood out among those fair skinned women in the club. The attraction that he felt was strong that he made a vow to approach her before the night ends.
Luckily though fate seemed to be cheering on his side when he saw her with that jerk of a foreigner, seemingly needing someone's help to which he unhesitantly obliged.
He was really elated to finally be able to exchanged names with her but his spirits even went to heavens when she agreed to his sudden invitation. That bar is his most favorite spot to hangout to while he was in Ilocos and to be able to share it with her is just really special. To dine, talk, drink and maybe exchange contact information with the beautiful stranger would made his trip even more memorable indeed.
But what happened next, he certainly didn't expect for sure.
He was always a man of dignity with his own set of rules to live by and some of those are to never take advantage of a woman, especially if she's drunk; and to never sleep with a complete stranger whom most likely will just say good bye the next morning.
But that night with Dale, he obviously broke his own rules big time. And curious enough, he didn't feel guilty or bad about it. On the contrary, when he woke up the following morning, for the first time he felt truly happy and satisfied after making love to a woman. Which never really happened with his previous girlfriends whom he was romantically involved with for the longest of times before but ironically, with a stranger whom he just met the same night by chance. And it truly amazes and confuses him until now.
That's why it was such a disappointment when he found out that she left without even saying good bye to him. And then fear came next as quickly when he thought of the possibility of not seeing her ever again.
So he set and immediately went out and searched for her that day. He wanted to find out for himself what those chaotic emotions inside him were all about. He then went to Hanna's first and then to all those nearby transient houses to ask for her whereabouts. He also went to every parking space to look but he couldn't find a single trace of her. The fact that he knows nothing about the woman except a part of her name didn't help either. In the end his efforts only ended in futile.
He would have wanted to stay and look further but apparently, he had some important business to attend to so the following day, and with a heavy heart, he left Ilocos for good.
He released a deep sigh. Given the cirsumstances, he probably wouldn't see Dale again. Probably they were just those type of people who are meant to pass but not stay on each others lives.
The thought made him incredibly sad somehow.
Suddenly his phone rang which lifted him from his current daze. He grab it from his bed and answered.
"Hello good morning Tito Mac." He immediately greeted the person on the other line.
It was Mr. Marcus Escolte. His mother's executive secretary for almost 35 years now.
"Morning Ed. Sorry to bother but I just want to make sure you're fine. You already know how to drive to the office right? Because you know how great of a nagger your mother is. Uhm I just want to save myself from doom in case she found out that you got lost on your way to you first day on the office or something."
He chuckled. "Don't worry, I already researched the route and it's all good. I promise I won't be late......or lost so you can relax now."
"Well that's very reassuring. Thank you very much." He paused to give way to Edward's guffaws. "Oh by the way. Did you check the folder I sent in your house? I asked the housekeeper to put it directly inside your room. That's your secretary's file. Read it and as early as now tell me if she isn't qualified for your taste so I could immediately find a more suitable replacement."
He looked around and found the folder on his bedside table. "Yeah it's here. I haven't look at it yet though. But I'm pretty sure whoever that person is, he/she is capable enough anyway. I trust your choice after all Tito."
"Why thank you very much Mr. Barber I appreciate it. But just check it will you? Just in case ok?"
"Alright." He eventually gave in.
"O siya bye for now. See you at the office later. Drive safely."
"Ok. See you."
With that the line went dead.
He immediately walked over to his bedside table after and grabbed the folder like he promised. But the moment he opened it and saw the file inside, his eyes instantly widened in shock. He stayed petrified for a couple of seconds before a huge smile finally broke on his lips as five words came out.
"I found you at last."
