POV: Nicholas Felez
The waves crash against the heels of the cliff, a salted spray rising into the air. Each wave is like the heartbeat of the ocean. If the waves were to stop, no one would look at it anymore, it'd be forgotten. The lost Sea.
I rise from my spot overlooking the sea and start towards the guild I now call home. Its strange, guild master Gildarts said that Fairy Tail used to attract new members everyday, but since I joined a year ago, there has only been one other, Samantha Spano, the Wrath of Seven Kingdom.
The journey back to Fairy Tail is lit by dim street lights and the fading sun in the distance. Though its been a year since I joined I've yet to go on any sort of mission with somebody. Just me and my 3 rings.
I arrive at the guild to be greeted by Gildarts. “Welcome back Nicholas. Now that your back I must tell you quickly, time is of the essence. Fairy Tail will be having a small tournament to determine our top 3 wizards and wizarding teams. These wizards will receive a rather large sum of money and the acceptance to take higher paying jobs around not just Fiore, but neighboring kingdoms as well such as. If you wish to compete in either team or singles, or both, registration will be closed by tomorrow at sunset. Good luck!”
I was mesmerized by the opportunity. Competition is one of the few drives that has my number, and I never hesitate to answer the phone when it calls. I'm no doubt going to compete in the singles division, and I would love to double the chance of being in the top 3 that get to go on bigger and better missions, but I have to find a team. Gildarts defines a team as being between 2-4 wizards that have a bond either emotionally, physically, or mentally, but apparently, for this tournament, a team can only be 2. I sign up for the singles competition and head to the boy's Fairy Tail dormitory to fall asleep.

I wake to the melody of the forest: wind whistling through the grass and trees, deer and other animals leaving their prints on the fields in which they eat from, and a stream could be heard in the distant background. My eyes flutter open and although the some extent I was aware of my surroundings, I'm astonished to find that I was actually in the forest. The nearest forest is a few hundred feet from Fairy Tail. Who would've been able to drag me, and my mattress, from the 3rd floor of the dormitories, out of Fairy Tail, and hundreds of feet away from the guild?
I attempt to stand up from my mattress to go back to Fairy Tail and maybe figure out why I was here, but as my body rises, a force even greater holds me down. It takes all my strength to turn my head and look for something, anything, that might explain the situation I'm in, and out of the corner of my eye, I see a figure approaching. The struggle to lift my head was not something that I could beat and my head remains plastered to the mattress. My heart begins to pound as the figure moves closer, but suddenly, the force that held me down was lifted and I could move freely once again.
I leap backwards and get into a battle ready position, ready to defend myself. I focus in on the hand I now have held in front of me...my rings...are gone. Fear pierces the casing of my heart and pure terror flows through my blood. I start to walk backwards as I trip, the unseen force returns and the figure is feet away from me.
He stands over me and stares me dead in the eyes. The fear I felt is replaced with a new, worse degree of terror at the sight of “him”. Lion. That is all I knew about him, his name, and that's only what he's called around the guild. Lion isn't even his real name. I had never gotten the opportunity to talk to him, he always shunned the weak in our guild, but I always admired him on a much deeper level than I would show. I build a one way link between us with my heart that I pray he never knows and it is for this reason that whenever in his presence, my body locks.
“H-Hey.” I stutter as my cheeks redden and my heart beats faster than the raging river I would rather throw myself into rather than be in this situation.
“Your weak. I'm done here” He throws my rings on the ground next to my head as I flinch and with that the gravity is lifted, and he leaves. Gravity magic huh? I chase after him.
“What was that?!” I'm only answered with the stark glare he shoots at me. I freeze in my tracks as I watch him leave. “Why?!” I scream through the forest. He stops and I barely manage to hear his words.
“I'll see you in the tournament, Nicholas.” Lion, the strongest mage in Fairy Tail, is going to kick my ass in a matter of days.
I stand shocked, paralyzed by the realization of the competition I didn't account for. I float my mattress down the stream until I can drag it to Fairy Tail and all the while, thoughts flow in and out of my mind. That's how he got me and my mattress, he just negated the gravity and pushed it. I have to beat him. I have to form a team with someone who can handle gravity magic. I have to find a way to beat gravity magic. What is its weakness?
I leave the stream with my soaked mattress and drag it back to Fairy Tail where I use my ring of waves to suck out all of the water from the mattress. Pulling the mattress up the stairs of the dormitory was going to be the most frustrating thing of the day. I let out a sigh when I see the mattress floating upwards toward the third floor. My eyes catch him using his gravity magic to pull the mattress up to the third floor. “Thanks.” I yell to him, but no acknowledgment is given, he just turns around and leaves. I walk up to my room to find my mattress back in its place which brings up another question. How the hell did he get in my room?
I sit down for a while then head back to the main guild house at around 4. “Congratulations Nicholas!” Wendy screams from across the guild. I only give a look of confusion in return when Happy points me in the direction of the tournament sign up sheet. I see my name on the singles competition roster and I look back confused again.
“What is it?”
Happy flies over to me and points to another sheet of paper right next to the singles roster:
Team Roster
Gajeel Redfox- Levy McGarden

Freed Justine- Bixlow
Alyssa Eucliffe- Aryan Fullbuster
Mirajane Strauss- Erza Scarlet

My heart both flutters and stops at the same time. I am both elated and frightened. Did he do this? “Get ready Nicholas.” Its him. His voice rings through my head. I stand immobilized for what felt like an eternity. I turn around to see his face, but all I'm greeted with are the doors of Fairy Tail waving from Lion, to me until they come to a stop, dividing us once more.
