Giovana Rodriguez

The Deciphered Princess

She walks with Elegance, grace, and poise. Proper is the correct form of living for those in the royal family. Or, it was.

Giovana was born into the royal family and though she rarely thought of it, she might very well have been the ruler of the entire kingdom. The only thing standing between her and the throne were her two sisters, Jamie, and Genevieve. It was decided that before a new Queen may take the throne, the sisters will compete in a series of challenges designed to test their kindness, strength, and leadership skills.

When Giovana turned 8 her mother passed away. It was during this time in the kingdom that the mother held the true blood in the royal couple. As a result, with the death of the Queen, came the dethronement of the King. The competition between the Princesses was imminent. It was that night that the life of this wizard would change.

Giovana left the palace at midnight to surround herself in the cool, autumn air that was made as if to clear the minds of those it entranced. “Dark Ecriture: Wings.” She whispered into the air aimlessly and wings found their way to her back. She jumped into the air and flew around the city feeling the air whip and shift through her hair. Her eyes began to water from the air shooting into her eyes.

A strange force dragged Giovana down. It was as if a beast's invisible hands beckoned her to the ground. It was not forced, but it was tempting. An urge so strong, resistance was futile.

She was led to the sight of a small child in the empty streets of the kingdom she was soon to rule. Its wails were loud enough to strike the ears of every citizen of the city, but none seemed to answer its call. She used her Ecriture wings to float down to the location of the baby, disengaged them, and lifted the child. As she stared into its face, her mind became focused. The baby was not a baby, it was a doll. And its eyes were not glowing a paranormal ruby red. She flung the doll into the air and a second later, its explosion rattled the entire city. But what was stranger than the fact the explosive doll was planted to lure her to this location, was the fact no one came out of their house to check what was occurring right outside of their homes.

A dagger was shot down at the location she was standing moments ago. She escaped death. And as she looked around, a voice echoed through the night, “You can't run from death.” Another short, hand knife was thrown at her with it barely missing her ear. She leapt into the air with her Dark Ecriture wings and evaded many knives that seemed to miss her. Her face was calm, cool, and collected. “This is just a test.” She thought to herself as she flew around the area.

“He should've hit me at least once by now.” Her thoughts caught up with her and in that moment, she found the origin of the flying daggers. She raced toward the masked man and tackled him to the ground. She hopped from him and there they stood, face to face. He raced at her and she did the same. “Dark Ecriture: Lance!” A fencer's sword seemed to conjure out of a mass of letters that appeared around her hand.

Their steel blades crashed against each other, fencer's lance to the daggers of a masked man. Miscalculation cannot always be helped, and Giovana failed to realize, he had one in his other hand. He thrust the blade forward, and it pierced her skin. “This isn't a test!” Reality had Giovana now in its clutches and determination rang through her heart, mind, and soul. The masked man twisted the knife, but Giovana let out no sound.

“That won't work on me. You weapons have no effect on the figment of the arrangement of letters and scripts that make up the magic I use.” She was made of the letters she used in her spells. (A/N kind of like Juvia how she is made of water, Giovana is made of Dark Ecriture scripts).

She cast the man aside, held the lance to his throat and asked, “Who are you. And why have you attempted to assassinate your Princess?!”

“I was just hired ma'am.” She faded into the shadows of the night leaving Giovana standing in the street alone.

In an embark back to the castle to tell of the masked man, her wings gave out, and she collapsed 30 ft from the air back to the streets of her Kingdom. She attempted to summon them again. “Dark Ecriture: Wings!” Nothing. She tried other spells. “Dark Ecriture: Rune Guard!” Nothing. It was a null magic zone.

“Giovana. Hurry. Please.” A woman is calling her. Given the circumstances of her recent attack, she was hesitant in going to the woman, but after her thoughts wrestled in her head, she walked over, careful for any attacks that may come.

“We mustn’t talk long, but I'll start by saying I talked to Genevieve, your sister.” With that Giovana let her guard down. “A great evil is taking over this nation, and sanity will no longer exist here. You have to leave this place at once!” The woman is practically screaming, but, in a hushed, whisper tone. As she says that a hand finds its way to her shoulder, it looks like her husband. With him, came Genevieve who ran over to hug Giovana with tears in her eyes.

“Whats going on.” Giovana breaks the embrace to question everyone there.

“Its Jamie. Shes...” Genevieve’s words cut off with her tears. “She's not stable Giovana. We have to get as far away form here as possible!”

“Take these. You won't be able to use magic in this kingdom anymore. You have to run. This pill will let you use only transportation magic, such as your wings, to flee from this nation of Hades.” The woman's husband hands me 2 pills. One for me, and the other to Genevieve.

“Mr. and Mrs. Felez. We have to hurry!” A boy of about 17 calls them back. Their faces couldn't be stricken with more fear. They turn to run, but as their bodies pivot, they also dissolve. The couple reverts to particles that disappear into the air.

The hearts of the 2 sisters are no longer beating at a normal man's pace. They realize a danger, but they could've never known the degree it extended to. They take the pills and flee the Kingdom. With no destination, they arrive in the town Magnolia of Fiore. And even today, Giovana questions what happened to her sister, Jamie, and what is the state of the nation they used to love, Seven Kingdom.
