On Monday, Scarlet struggled to find Émilie when she first got to school. Instead of waiting for Scarlet in their usual spot, Émilie was nowhere to be found. After relentless searching, Scarlet spotted blonde curls amongst a large crowd of girls.
Scarlet pushed her way through the crowd to get to Émilie.
"What's happening?" Scarlet asked her.
"Tryout results were posted."
"And?"
Émilie's eyes lit up in delight. "We both made it!"
Scarlet blinked twice. "Am I hearing things?"
"Nope, you heard right. Look."
Scarlet approached the paper and scanned the names of the girls who made it. Towards the end of the list, she found it: Scarlet Benoit.
Scarlet was shocked. She never expected she'd actually make it.
"So? Are you gonna join?" Émilie asked.
Scarlet bit her lip in thought.
"I'll think about it," she told her.
"Okay. Well, our first practice is this Wednesday, so you better decide by then."
Scarlet nodded and headed to class with Émilie by her side and her predicament on her mind.

Émilie was bent over and stretching her leg when Scarlet approached her.
"I guess you made up your mind," Émilie said in reference to Scarlet's presence.
Scarlet glanced down at her tight uniform, then looked back up and smiled at Émilie.
"So, what made you decide to join? It wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that the football team practices on the same day, would it?" Émilie said.
Scarlet rolled her eyes and scoffed. "No."
"If you say so."
While the girls were stretching, their coach blew the whistle and called them over. The girls jogged over to her and huddled up.
The coach started explaining things about the season and their goals. Scarlet soon tuned her out as her mind (and eyes) drifted elsewhere.
She looked around the field to distract herself and found herself staring into a familiar pair of green eyes. She smiled at Wolf and he smiled back.
Later, while Scarlet was standing on the sidelines watching some cheerleaders demo a routine, Wolf approached her.
"Hey," he said. Scarlet jumped in surprise.
"Did I startle you?" he said.
"No. I mean, yes. I mean—I just didn't see you there. It's nothing."
Scarlet didn't understand why she was so flustered. She could feel herself getting hot, but it wasn't just because of the California sun.
