We are born unique and have different perspective in life, so we have different beliefs and moral values we adhere. Having a moral value causes us to cultivate cooperation, strengthen communities, elicit empathy and helping the unfortunates. However, there are some moral values that shapes our behavior on a certain group of people. As suggested above, a research found people who value moral purity over compassion are more likely to dehumanize gay, transgender people, people with AIDS and prostitutes.

The researchers focused on two moral values, sanctity and care. Sanctity is strict adherence to purity values and disgust over acts that are deemed morally contaminating. Whereas, care is disapproval of others who cause suffering without reasonable cause. Participants who prioritized sanctity over care believed that gay, transgender, people with AIDS, prostitutes were more impulsive, had less rational minds and view them as worse than an animal for lacking self-control or discipline. Contrary, people who value care more than sanctity show compassion for those stated types of people and support public policies that might help them.

However, there is hope in combatting prejudice. According to researches, they conclude that the moral values of a person can be altered at least temporarily by highlighting certain values like caring. There is a chance to convince people who value moral purity over compassion to clearly see the bigger picture and open their mind to comprehend the circumstances faced by their fellow human beings.

Sometimes, strongly believing in a particular moral value can lead to immoral actions such as discriminating or harming someone who needs sympathy, care, and love.
