Beth's POV
As the bus pulls closer and closer to school, we all start to exchange numbers in case we don't have the same classes together. I can't help but notice Taylor's face, he looks so deep in thought, like something big is on his mind. I can't read it so I'm just going to guess he's thinking about the new school. I am too, like, am I going to get on the cheer squad? What am I talking about? Of course I am! Nothing to worry about. Okay... am I going to get good grades? Meh. I'll try, no guarantee. But one question I have absolutely no answer for, will Taylor be able to keep his cool? No idea. No idea at all. I'll just have to trust that he learned from last time and how we had to move half-way across the country. We pull up to school a few minutes later and on the front door is a big sign that reads, "Freshman meet in Cafeteria, Sophomores meet in room 101, Juniors meet in Robert G. Coleman's Hall, Seniors meet in Gymnasium." Elaina, noticing Taylor and I are worried about finding the Gym, assures us she knows exactly where it is. The four of us walk down the hall to the door that leads to the Gym. The Gym is the only building that is not connected to the school. We walk down the pathway to the gym and we all sit together. A tall, stocky, blonde woman walks in the door. She greets us all with a smile and talks forever about the school year and what to expect. Her name is Mrs. Thomas and she is the gym teacher. She than calls of our names to place us in homerooms. By chance, all four of us are in the same homeroom. Our homeroom number is 209 on the second floor. All the Seniors start to leave for their rooms and Lucy and Elaina lead us to the second floor. Our homeroom classroom is full of posters and our teacher's name is Mr. Stockburger. He looks nice enough. Today is a half day so we leave at 11:30. Right now it is 9:00. Mr. S gives us our lockers and our schedule. Then we take a full building tour. Before I know it, it is time to leave. My friends and I start to work our way to the bus and we sit in the same seats as before and I notice a boy who I didn't notice before sits in the row across from us. He is human, I know because I can tune into his thoughts. Right now he's thinking about the first day and how much he's excited about leaving. I feel the exact same way. I wonder about him and who he is because he's really cute.
****Lucy's POV****
I'm incredibly worried about myself. Throughout the entire day I have felt like complete shit. I never get sick because I'm a monster, monsters are immune to human diseases. I think that it has something to do with my collapse this morning. I hope that it doesn't continue. Taylor again puts his arm around me. It feels so nice when he does that. I almost feel happy, almost. I kinda want to push him away but that would be mean. I just don't want him to too attached to me because if my dad's coming for me, he'll do whatever it takes to get me. We sit in silence together with his arm around my shoulder and my head resting on his chest. Elaina said we looked really cute. Taylor's really moving forward and getting straight to the point of relationship status but we just met today! However, all monsters can sense emotion, all I feel from Taylor is nothing but love and affection. I really want to love him, I think if I wasn't so unemotional, we'd have something real together.
****Taylor's POV****
Lucy is amazing, I love her so much and I want her to feel the same way. I can feel she wants to but something, I don't know what, is holding her back. Something dark and blurry and completely evil. I want to help her defeat it but I wouldn't know where to start. I wonder if it is her dad. I mean, she said she saw him when she fell unconscious and he was walking towards her. It must be because why wouldn't he come after her after she escaped? Any father would try to find his daughter after she runs away, but from the way Lucy described him, he was definitely not a good father figure. There is probably more to it than a dad wanting to find his daughter. Maybe it's just for control, or maybe it's because he really did love her, or maybe Lucy is more powerful than she thinks and he wants to use her. Either way, we can't let him get to Lucy. He might drag her back into Hell and keep her there, or worse, kill her. I shudder at the thought. Lucy looks at me, she felt me shudder, "I just got a chill. It's kinda cold in here." She nods and lays back down on me. I can feel that she doesn't feel well, I feel so bad for her. Tonight, when I get home, I'm going to find a way, any way, to help her defeat her dad.
****Elaina's POV****
The bus pulls up to my me and my friend's stop. We all get off and split to go our separate ways. I hold Lucy up as she gets weaker and weaker. I walk with her the two blocks to our apartment building and ask our door man, Eli to help me get her into our apartment. We live on the eighth floor and luckily our elevator is working today. Stupid piece of crap breaks down every once in a while, this morning we had to walk down the eight flights of stairs, a real workout for a human but for me and Lucy it was like, no big deal. Right now, if she were to even attempt going up all those stairs I don't think she would have even make it up the first flight of stairs. We get off the elevator and Eli holds Lucy up while I open the door. We get in and Eli rushes her to her bed. "Do you want me to call the ambulance?" He asks. "I hope not." I reply. " If she's not better by morning I think I'll let you know. Thank you so so much Eli!" "No problem-o" He tilts his hat and leaves. I make Lucy her favorite green tea just the way she likes it, a sugar cube and a splash of honey. Then I heat up some chicken soup and give it to her. She ate it up and thanked me before falling asleap on her bed. She was fully clothed even with her shoes still on! I take off her shoes and shock and replace them with her favorite fluffy purple socks. I don' t want to undress her so I just leave her be and call Beth and Taylor. I tell them all about what is going on. Beth is speaking when i hear her Lucy get up. I walk in slowly with the phone still at my ear, "You okay Lucy?" I ask her in a quiet voice. She doesn't reply, her back it turned away from me. I get a little closer and ask again. I get closer and touch her shoulder. "Lucy?" I ask. She turns slightly and I see her profile. She speaks in a voice I haven't heard before, "Lucy? Ha. Lucy's gone. I am her father."
