Alone in the shadows

Chapter 9

Taylor's POV

        For Halloween, my dad will be out of town again so we can stay out as late as we want. I call Lucy and ask what she wants to be for Halloween and she describes what she is making. I still can't believe she wants to make her costume. She asks what I want to be and I say I have no idea. She offers to make me a costume too. Halloween is in three weeks. I don't see her finishing two costumes in that time. Well, maybe, she does have magic on her side. She says she's sending the orb to get me and teleport me to the apartment so we can brainstorm ideas for a costume. The orb appears in front of me and I step into it. Teleporting is awesome. I appear to in her apartment and she is on her computer with string, fabric, and all this other stuff surrounding her. She sees me and says, "Hey how 'bout you go as Shrek?" She laughs and I shake my head no. "Okay, how 'bout Humpty Dumpty?" She laughs again. "Ha ha. Very funny, babe." "Oh I know!" She turns her computer around this time to show the perfect costume, "You should go as Peter Pan!"

        Peter Pan is like my favorite Disney movie. I loved it so much as a kid. We teleport a block away from the fabric store behind a dumpster so no one would see us. We walk in and find a thingy that tells you how to make a Peter Pan costume, and all the stuff to make it. Something tells me that Lucy's going to be doing all the costume making.

****Beth's POV****

        Working at Hot Topic has been a blast and I fit right in with the other staff members. It has been my first real, good paying job. The only reason Taylor and I both have cars is when we turned fifteen my dad got a huge promotion and raise. Now I can finally start making my own car payments. I look at this awesome B-MO from Adventure Time sweatshirt and it reminds me that Lucy's birthday is coming up. She loves cartoons so I decide it would be a perfect gift for her. It's like, only fifty dollars so I'll be able to pay for it when I get my first paycheck on Friday. I was organizing pants when a someone comes up and taps my shoulder. "Excuse me, ma'am" I turn around to see a boy, I can feel something about him but I don't know what. "Yes? What can I help you with?" I say with a small smile. "Can you open a changing room please?" He points to the changing rooms. "Sure follow me" I lead him to a one, "What's your name so I can write it on the door?" He answers, "Justin" I write J U S T I N on the white board and open the room. I go back to me work and I cant stop think about him he's much, well, like me, I can feel it. He comes out and pays for the shirt he tried on and I realize, I can't read his mind.

        My shift was over and I walk over to the food court to see him again. I don't go up to him because I'm not positive if he is a monster or a trained con artist. There are ways to block your thoughts to monsters and it misleads us to believing they're on of us, and that would't be good. It is easy to avoid him because the food court is really big. I find a Sbarro, order and quickly leave before Justin can see me. I get home and find my dad but not Taylor. I text him and he is at Lucy's making Halloween costumes. Fuck, I still need to figure out what I want to be. I look search for ideas and I can't find any that are not slutty. I try again, this time searching for male costumes. This time I find no sluts and more ideas. I can't decide between Alice and the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. I ask my dad which one would be better and he says Alice. I log into my Netflix account and re-watch the Tim Burton make of the movie to study the her look. I have the makeup to create the look but I don't know which of her many outfits I should do and how to do them. I decide on her classic blue dress and search all over YouTube and find many videos on how to make it, but it's going to take forever. 

****Elaina's POV****

        I've been here in Naridesa, my kingdom, for about three hours and the coronation has still not happened yet. My brother and I haven't even gotten to talk yet. I guess we can talk after. I've been sitting in the throne room waiting for the coronation to start for about an hour and a half. I reread my speech for the millionth time and feel good about it. I finally hear the bells and see everyone entering. I even see my mom! I rush to her and hug her tightly. It's really good to see her after all these years. I get back to my place and the ceremony starts. I give my speech half way through and look at my little brother and I have a flash back of him coming home for the first time, I think I start to tear up. The rest is a blur, next thing I know we are in the ballroom and celebrating. Matthew pulls me out of the room and thanks me for giving such a nice speech. He says to me, "Why don't you stay here longer? We haven't seen you in so long! Dad really misses you." Today in Earth time is Sunday, I tell him I can't stay and have to leave. I can tell he looks disappointed and I look away. I can't stand the thought of leaving my family again, I promise Matthew to return soon. I remember in November and December both we have a week and a half long break, I'll come back those two months. I hug him, my father, Kai, Opal, and my mom. I am greeted again by the dolphins and they lead me out of Naridesa into the open water. I wash up onto shore and transform back into a human, no one is there, no one saw. I get up and hitch a ride on the bus that takes me back to my apartment. Lucy and Taylor are in there and they've made a huge mess of loose fabric, string, and plastic. It looks like they're making costumes. OMG! They are making costumes! Halloween is in a week! Taylor hears me come in and says, "Hey Laina, where have you been?" Then Lucy sees me and gets me caught up with what's happening right now. Taylor was going to be Peter Pan, she was going to be a Gothic Lolita Doll, and Beth was going to be Alice from Tim Burton's make of Alice in Wonderland. Beth is at the Halloween store right now and will be here soon. I have no idea what I'm going to be. I think about it for a while and draw a complete blank. I think back to my brother's coronation and how much I looked like Elsa in that dress. That's who I want to be, Queen Elsa of Arendalle. Lucy and Taylor seen to like that idea and I start looking at tutorials on how to do the Elsa braid and start to practice. It takes less time than I thought and Lucy says I look just like her. Perfect.
