Alone in the shadows

Chapter 10

Lucy's POV

        We've been working on costumes for three hours now. All four of us are here now and with all of us working we managed to finish Taylor's and Elaina's costumes. We are so close to finishing Beth's and even closer to finishing mine. Ugh, this is taking forever. Although, we had Elaina's story of her family reunion to keep us occupied. I don't know how got away with completely disappearing on the beach but somehow she did. The fact that she's Beth and Taylor what she looks like as a mermaid is cool because when they do see her they will be blown away. I just don't know what is a good time to show them. Maybe we can find a remote place later and go for a swim. In California you can go to the beach year-round and it is awesome, well maybe not in December but still, Cali weather is always amazing. We finally finish my costume and focus all our attention to Beth's and thirty minutes later we are done all the costumes. We all try them on and Taylor already looks perfect but us girls need to work on our face and hair. Elaina quickly braids her hair into the perfect Elsa braid. Beth helps her with the purple makeup that Elsa wears and she's perfect. With Beth's long hair, we decide it would be easy to just dye her hair temporarily a blonde color and curl it. For me, I just need to put my hair into a bonnet so it will be easy. We experiment with makeup on me and Beth for a while and I guess Taylor got bored because in the other room I hear him playing Super Mario Bros. We use Beth's natural pale skin to our advantage with her Alice in Wonderland look because in the Tim Burton make of the movie the actor playing Alice is extremely pale and wears no makeup but Beth didn't want to go au natural so we settled on a very light brown smokey eye and grey eyeliner, and to match the movie, pale peach lipstick. For me, using the picture of the doll I found and a makeup tutorial, we created the perfect look. Using white eyeliner, we exaggerated the size of my eyes. I looked like I had golf balls for eyes. I looked so creepy and weird. I walked out to Taylor and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around and screamed a little. It was really funny and I laughed at him for sounding like a little girl. He realized it was just me and punched me a little in the arm. Elaina and Beth came out and they looked great. Taylor turned around and say them and we all stood and looked at how good we looked. I have to say, we looked really good, the only problem is that we have to wait a week for Halloween. 

*(Halloween night)*

****Beth's POV****

        Tonight is the Halloween dance that our school hosts every year. Lucy said last year was the best they ever had, apparently someone spiked the drinks and on of the chaperones, which was the principal, got completely wasted. Elaina said last year they went as creepy twins and everyone loved them. This year, hopefully nothing bad will happen to us and the dance will go well. It is being hosted in the gym so we had to park in the school's back parking lot. We had to bring our school IDs to confirm we were real students because supposedly two years ago a teenage drug dealer snuck in and got almost got everybody arrested. My school is pretty crazy when it comes to parties but it is a very good school. I was amazed when Elaina told me all the stories of what happens at the Halloween parties. The school almost didn't host on this year but the students were seriously pissed off when they canceled it so they brought it back. The best part is there is separate dances for all the grade levels. They alternate who gets the actual Halloween day and to our luck the we seniors got Halloween. This year's party theme is an insane asylum and it was amazing. There was writing all over the wall like "Help me" or "It was more fun in Hell", blood dripping off the walls, fake bones and skulls everywhere, and it looked nothing like what the gym looked like before. The basketball nets have been transformed into giant spiderwebs with dummies and spiders attached to it. This is Halloween from Nightmare before Christmas was playing on the giant speaker the school rented. I look around me and no one's costume is as good as ours are. Everyone asks us where we got them and I love their faces when we say we made them. The night went on undisturbed. The drinks were once again spiked and Lucy got a little tipsy. The principal wasn't chaperoning, surprise surprise, and this time it was our pre-calculus teacher Mrs. Dawson who drank too much. Some kids were in no doubt drunk and some were high. The bathroom smelled like weed and there were girls in there smoking. None of the three sober chaperones noticed because they couldn't keep track of it all. The other two drunk chaperones were sleeping on the bleachers. At about eleven at night the chaperones started to fall asleep and some of the kids drew on them. Three hours later the police were called by people living near our school. At this time the drinks were all gone and most of my classmates were drunk. Lucy being one of them. The police made us all go home and confiscated all the weed that the stoners had. We had to drag Lucy home because she didn't remember how to walk properly and we helped Laina get her costume makeup off. I was surprised to see it still looked good after about six hours and her getting drunk. Taylor and I left to go home and him and I had way less makeup on than Elaina and Lucy but my hair was covered in blonde hair dye. I took a shower and got all of it out with shampoo. When I got out of the shower I realized I missed a few spots and it looked like I had high lights. It actually looked kinda cool. I re-washed my hair and got all the temporary dye out. To be honest, I really liked the blonde streaks.                 

****Tayor's POV****

        I woke up this morning at eleven, three hours before I normally do. I don't sleep forever like most teens do, maybe it's because I'm not normal. Beth wasn't home and neither was my dad. I take this opportunity to go to the basement and play CoD Ghosts at full volume. Beth comes home about thirty minutes later and screams at me for playing so loud. I hear her coming down the steps of the basement and I ignore her. "TAYLOR!" she screams, "TURN YOUR FUCKING VIDEO GAME DOWN!!!!" I turn around to scream back at her and I see her hair, it has blonde streaks in the front now and looks really good. "Wow. Your hair looks really nice but what made you do it?" I asked her. "Oh, well, last night when I washed out the blonde hair dye about three streaks in the front and I liked how it looked so I made it permanent." "I really like it." I say and she smiles. "Thanks! But seriously, turn the volume down." I laugh and turn it down just slightly and she sighs and walks back upstairs. I love to annoy her.

I did this because it is easy to picture what Taylor, Beth, and Elaina's Halloween costumes look like but everybody's imagination works differently so my picture of what Lucy would look like is probably different than yours.
