Alone in the shadows

Chapter 4

Beth's POV

        Elaina and Lucy didn't come to school today. I don't think it will matter because it is only the second day of school. It is also a half day again so they won't miss anything. Taylor and I after school are going to go to their apartment and check on them. The bus stop feels empty without them and I can tell Taylor is really worried about Lucy. Neither of them are picking up their phones and we've called eight times. Hopefully during the building tour yesterday we gained enough knowledge of the school and we can find our way around. If we even do any walking around the building. 

        It has been two hours through the half day, only an hour and a half to go, thank goodness. We haven't done anything except go through our classes and learn what to expect. I've almost fallen asleep when my phone vibrates. I excuse myself and rush to the bathroom. I got a text from Laina, "He has come. S.O.S."  S.O.S is Morse code for help. They are in trouble, and "he has come" can only mean one thing, Lucy's father found her. I have to tell Taylor this and we have to find a way to get out of here. I text Taylor to tell him then rush back to my class. I enter and say to my teacher, "I just threw up in the bathroom. Is it okay if I go home with my brother?" The teacher tells me to get my brother and leave before I "contaminate the school." Taylor texts me back and says, "What do we do?" I tell him that I've been excused from school and that we need to sign out at the office. He tells his teacher of my "sickness" and meets me at the school's front office. We sign out and run to Laina and Lucy's apartment. Luckily, we have super speed and it only took five minutes. We heard Laina screaming from their window. They're window is open and I don't think we are going to be able to get in through the door. Taylor gives me a boost and throws me up to the window. I slip in and see Lucy with a knife cornering Elaina into a wall. Lucy, hearing me, turns around. She is not herself, I see it in her face. Her eyes are all black and she's covered in blood. She makes me feel uncomfortable seeing it and I wonder if it's her own. Elaina screams again and Taylor comes crashing into the window, luckily he didn't break it. He screams, "Lucy! We know your in there somewhere!" Lucy laughs and says in her fathers voice, "No. Lucy is gone. Lucy is no more, and with her power, I can now bring her back to Hell and regain my power. You see, she is an important part of my power. When she was born, she took half my power. I held her hostage to use her power until she decided to become more powerful and escape. She is the bad guy, not me. I'm just trying to protect her and the whole world from her evil ways." Taylor's eyes, upon hearing this, turned white except for his pupils and his claws started to grow. He screamed at Lucy's dad, "No!" That "no" was so loud it caused the windows to rattle and Lucy's dad fell backwards. Elaina and I huddled back knowing not to get in his way. "I know she's good! I can feel it from her! You're the on holding her back! I knew it was you! You are the one ruining her live!" Taylor screams at him. Lucy's father looked at Taylor with a look of pure hatred but Taylor remained intact. Elaina whispered to me, "She's covered in blood because when her father took her body she threw up blood all over herself." Elaina just reminded me I'm hungry, when I'm hungry I'm at my second most powerful state. (My first most powerful is at night.) I can feel my fangs lengthening.  

****Lucy's POV****

        I'm trapped in my own head. I can't move or speak. My dad got me, he won, but somewhere in my mind I can hear Taylor yelling. My dad turns and looks at him and then I can see him. He is in werewolf form and he looks pissed at my dad. I can't blame him. Out of the corner of my eye I see Laina huddled in  a corner. Beth is nowhere to be seen. I see Taylor holding back from attacking my dad. He screams, "Lucy! I know you're there! Use your power to overcome him!" My dad starts to laugh and say something but I'm not listening to him. He had said I had powers. I try to think of how to use them but I don't know how. I never knew I was capable of anything so I just start saying "Go back to Hell, Father" over and over in my head. By doing this, I started regaining the feeling in my fingers, I start screaming it in my head. I get my hands and my feet back. My dad starts to scream at me to stop but I don't. Instead I say it out loud and I get my arms and legs back. My dad screams profanities at me but I don't care. He can't take over my life to fuel his crazy ways. I feel my whole body coming back to me and I shout out one last time, this time everyone heard me. With a flash of light, I am back and my father is gone. All the scratches and  the blood evaporate from my skin. I'm pretty sure I banished him to Hell never to return back to Earth. I feel something I have been waiting for my entire life to feel, I feel happy. I feel so happy I start to cry. It was happy tears and Taylor came over back in human form to hug me, and I hugged him back. Beth comes back in through the window with blood in her teeth and on her chin. "Sorry" She said, "I was hungry." We laughed and group hugged. We are super lucky our apartment is sound proof so no one heard that. Hopefully.
