Breaks:

[L1,2 or 3] represents the beginning of a flashback to one of Elena's past lives. There is more than one past life, which is why I have put up the numbers. Though, these memories are usually told as she sleeps and Elena herself cannot remember them.

[/L1,2 or 3] represents the end of a flashback to one of Elena's past lives.

[P] represents the beginning of a retelling of a memory in Elena's current life.

A/N: Came up with this idea a little last minute... it's very cool. I'm very excited to share it with you all. Let me know your thoughts on it too! xD

Despite searching for a way all the way down to the water, the closest we got was at least a seven foot drop. Yugo and I stared down at the water crashing up against the rocky cliff. Every once in a while a particularly large wave would hit and white droplets of the spray would reach us.

"...should we leave our things here?" I asked after a moment.

Yugo pulled back from leaning over the edge to look at me. Then he glanced around the empty rock shelf we stood on. "It seems dry enough."

For a moment I hesitated. My foot scuffed the stone and a thin layer of sand gave away. Most of it kicked up in a cloud of dry dust that hurt to breathe but the closer to the edge of the stone it was the more soaked the sand got.

"I'm not sure about the amount of sand though." I chewed at my lip in my uncertainty.

"The sand?" Yugo looked down, puzzled. He kicked up his own little dust cloud. I frowned at him for it and the second he saw how it drifted my way he suddenly looked exactly the way Moon did when the monkey knew he'd gotten in trouble. The ears on his hat fell back and he picked the edges of the blanket that he still carried. Tone rather sheepish, "s- sorry. Um, what about the sand?"

"It'll get stuck on us when we dry off." I pointed out. My eyes roamed the cliffs around us but there didn't seem to be anywhere else that was both directly in the sun and barely touched by the sand. Jokingly, "it'd be a lot easier if we could get sand off our skin as easily as we can flick our clothes clear of dry sand, huh?"

But when I turned my gaze on Yugo then he seemed to be stricken by something rather alarming that he had noticed that I hadn't. Instantly tense, I glanced around again, this time looking for whatever danger had caused him to freeze up and breathe so quickly.

The cliffs were still. The water below crashed just as relentlessly as before. The wind tugged at my clothes and hair, carrying more grit with it, but nothing shifted. Nothing moved that didn't already belong.

That just made me all the more uneasy.

Whatever it was that got Yugo so scared- was it hiding? Wearily, I stepped closer to him. If anything decided to jump out at us there was no way I wasn't taking Yugo in the same portal with me.

But when I stepped closer I heard his breathing hitched faster. Out of the corner of my eye I saw how he now clutched that blanket to him as though it would be plenty to protect him.

From what though?

In a near whisper, "Yugo?" I tried to get his attention. He didn't so much as flinch at hearing his own name. I repeated myself, a little louder, "Yugo?"
