To Above, From Below

One morning
As a child
I rose
To the surface
For I believed
My home
Had come
From the sun
When I learned
The trembling circles
Were droplets
Of water

Of course
I was wrong
This was just
Before learning
Our waters
Were growing
Warmer

Another day
Once matured
I returned
Despite warnings
Not to go
For fear
I'd be stolen

But I couldn't help knowing
Where those thin white crystals
That would blend with my home
Came from
I'm glad I did
Because before long
They'll be gone

In the midst of dusk
After birthing my children
I stayed in place
To watch
Violent currents
Of increasing storms
White lights signifying
Lightning strikes
Ignite the black sky
More and more

Tonight
In old age
I have no home
For the heat is
Strangling
Our
Coral

Our waters are quiet
So I float
To the surface
To glimpse Our Earth
While it is still
