Beth's POV
It has been a week since the accident and since Amora tried to take her own life. She has shown brain activity, so I believe that she will be waking up any day now. Liel has been worried but he understands that he still needs to go to school and that I'll watch over his big sister while he is gone. He got up this morning and I took him to school. When I dropped him off at school I told him I would be there this afternoon at 3 to pick him up. Currently it is 9 in the morning, I'm sitting here beside Amora's bed in the chair drinking my 4th cup of coffee.
" Well good morning Ms. Cartos, have you been home to sleep at all?" Nurse Faith says hanging a new bag of blood, a bag of fluids, and attaching Amora's IV to the lines.
" Yes, I have been home but haven't been able to sleep much. Between working on funeral arrangements, worrying about Amora, and taking care of Liel, I haven't gotten much sleep. And please call me Beth?" I respond back tiredly. Getting up from my chair, I grab my jacket and throw my empty cup away. " I have to go talk to their uncle Jonathan's and talk to him about the living arrangements for the children. Their father trusts him very much. Even after all the stuff he put me through. I'll be back around 4 this after noon. If she wakes up before then please call me immediately."
" Will do Ms.- Beth. Umm one more thing before you go. If you don't mind me asking how Jonathan is related to the children?" The nurse asks in a questioning voice. I swallowed hard as the flashbacks of my marriage with him came flowing through the walls I have had up for so long.
" Umm, yes sure, well I went to school with him all my life and when high school came around we found that we had feelings for one another. After high school, during my freshmen year of college, Jonathan and I decided to get married. After all we had been together for 5 years. Not long after our wedding his mother passed away, growing up it was only his mom and himself. He became an alcoholic after that, I became pregnant with our first child, do to him abusing me, I was hospitalized, I had 3 broken ribs, a black eye, and the lose of my only child." I said looking down at my shoes. The nurse looked at the ground speechless.
" That's not the whole truth love, you and I both know that." A familiar voice said from the door way of the room. My head shot straight up with terror in my eyes. I slowly turned around to see Jonathan standing there in an old flannel, a pair of worn out blue jeans, and his old work boots. He leaned up against the side of the door frame and crossed his arms across his chest.
" Jonathan.... Wh- what are you doing here?" I said trembling. I hadn't seen him since that night.
" I was called last night by the staff here saying that my niece was here in critical condition and that my brother and his wife were killed in a car crash." he said walking toward me. I took a step back, putting arm space between us. " Come on you can't tell me you're still mad about that night."
" One he is not YOUR brother and she is NOT you niece. You lost that privilege when you caused me to lose my only child. You have no right to tell me I can't be mad at you! So let's not act like that night never happened because it did. The only reason you are here is because it was my brother's dying wish that if anything were to happen to him or Abigail, the kids liv with you until Amora is 18. Let's leave and talk about everything because we need a private conversation and I will have to go get Liel at 3. Nurse Faith like I said would you please call me if she wakes before I make it back." The nurse nodded back at me and Jonathan and I left the hospital.
This is a day I could have waited my whole life for... Everything is just now starting again. Where will this torture end?
