Today's the first day on set and I couldn't be more excited. I've been rehearsing last evening after my conversation with Jorma. I've been thinking about that kiss all night long and I'm desperate to see Andy again.
I wasn't expecting this much traffic at 7 a.m. Most of the cars are bypassing others and when the traffic lights go green, the engines go crazy to escape from this big mess. It usually takes me 15 minutes driving to get to NBC building, but it's actually a long drive right now.
There are people walking toward the building while I park my car. The view of the crowded midtown Manhattan was everything I dreamed of, and I'm finally living the dream. I lock my car and before crossing the street I see a worried Andy looking on his phone. He mustn't have noticed me, so I go walking towards him, but a car starts honking at me, making me scream for a second. My purse and the coffee fall on the asphalt. I get down trying to get my things quickly and a couple of hands lifts me up and drags me down to the other side of the street. Instantly, my cup of coffee is smashed by the car's wheels, making me feel that this day is gonna be a bummer.
"You almost died." Andy says, taking the streak out of my face.
"I know, thank you."
"For what? Saving you from an accident and practically being your hero? Oh... your welcome."
I giggle. "You're the only one that can make me laugh out of this."
"It's my pleasure." He stares at me while I right my shirt.
It's my pleasure. I catch him staring at my breasts while I hand my purse on my shoulder and I stare back at him. His eyes find mine, and we both end up smiling at each other. We walk in the building.
...
I just ended the last scene of today. I get to my small cabin, to change my clothes. Some make-up artists did an amazing job on my face and I'm trying not to ruin it taking the hoodie off. I put my own clothes on, so I can go see Andy at work. Saying like this is weird because he basically works at the same place as me.
I get my stuff and before I leave, I say goodbye to everyone. They welcomed me and embraced me in the cast and I'm pretty satisfied with all of this. Next thing on my fix list: love life.
Takes 2 minutes for me to get to SNL office, there is a woman staring at her computer and a glass room behind her. I see Andy laughing with Seth and for a moment, I freeze. I was willing to ask him to go on a lunch with me, but after what happened between us yesterday, he'll think I'm hitting on him. I give a few steps just to freeze again. He'll totally think I'm hitting on him. I'll be playing the stupid one, pretending that he will go out with me with no ulterior motives.
When I realize, Andy is in front of me, with two pieces of paper on his hands just, checking on me. I give a step back when I see the distance between us.
"Oh...hum....hey."
"Hi." He looks glad to see me.
"Just checking."
"Since when you started checking on people?" I feel the tone of humor.
"I always checked on people I care."
"Oh, ok, I guess I'm fine."
"Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool. I was wondering if you wanna go have lunch with me?" He lifts one eyebrow. "As friends."
"Don't try to fix this now young lady." He says, joking.
"Forget what I said." I play with him, being dramatic and almost leaving.
"No, no, no... I really wanna have lunch with you."
"Yeah... great."
"I'm gonna grab my phone and my wallet. One sec."
I really wanna have lunch with you. That's different as if he wanted to me to ask him out. He waves his friends off as he leaves the room. The area is pleasant, air conditioning almost freezing, but the people seem happy working here. He walks side by side with me and sometimes I catch him staring at me when he thinks I'm not looking.
Our conversation is breezy, neither of us dares to touch yesterday's subject in any way. He takes me to the Rock Center Cafe, an elegant restaurant inside Rockefeller Center. He leads the way to the outdoor area of the cafe. "Do you come here often?" I ask.
"Sometimes, but I don't like have lunch by myself." He pushes the door so I can seat. Friends don't do that.
"What a gentleman." I say, sarcastically.
He chuckles. He sits beside me instead of sitting in front of me. Stop inventing scenarios. The waiter comes seconds later, giving me no time to choose, so I stick with the old salad. Not surprisingly, Andy orders a burger with a peculiar name that I don't know. The waiter leaves us, and I start thinking of something we could talk about.
"How was your first day on set?" He asks, leaning on the table towards me.
"It was great. I got there and this bunch of people came at me with make-up brushes and hair curlers that for some seconds, I went crazy." While I still talk, he keeps leaning forward to me, as if my words were captivating his attention. His eyes take turns between my eyes and my lips. His half-closed mouth shows how much he's daydreaming, and in a certain moment, he seizes my right hand.
"That's great honey."
He just said honey. Honey?
After some seconds, he realizes what he just said. His eyes pop out for a quick moment and I see he's trying to keep it cool. I giggle almost silently and I can't take the huge smile from my mouth.
After some minutes of small talk, the waiter comes with my plate of salad and grilled chicken and the peculiar burger Andy asked for. A second waiter, behind the former one, holds a bottle of champagne and two glasses. Andy looks confused to the waiter and then looks at me. The man opens the bottle and serves us both. "To the young lovers."
"I believe there's a misunderstanding here, we're..."
"Happy together. Thank you so much." Andy interrupts me.
The waiter smiles at us before leaving. I look at Andy like you're in a big trouble young man kinda look. He laughs and explains. "It's free champagne."
