Dick's POV

I stared at the little boy, what was a kid like him doing in the HQ of the lord of assassin. Then I realized I must have been around his age when I started working with Slade.

"Damian." Ra's said no emotion in his voice. "Yes, grandfather." I felt my eyes go big at that and I was thankful that my mask coving my face.

Grandfather? Since when did Ra's have a grandson.

I studied him closely, I guess that would make him Thalia's son. "I would like to meet Renegade."

The boy looked at me as if taking me in. He had heard of me. All bad things, I assumed.

"Damian show Renegade around while me and Mr. Wilson have a chat."

I looked back at Ra's narrowing my eyes. The last thing I wanted to do was leave Slade, alone, with him.

I looked at Slade reading his expression, it was ordering me to go. I gritted my teeth but left the room with Damian.

"So your the infamous Renegade." He drawled. I didn't respond. Instead I studied the building. How could something this massive be hidden from the League.

Then I was ripped from my thoughts by Damian. I caught the blade he threw at me with ease.

He glanced at me for a second as if he were thinking about something. Then he lugged at me, I just had enough time to hold up my sword to stop his from coming down on me.

I couldn't deny that he was good, but his hold on the sword was all wrong. I disarmed him quickly and then pushed him up against the wall holding my sword to his throat.

"If you try that again I won't show you any mercy." I said bearing my teeth. "You wouldn't dare hurt me." He sneered, and I angled the tip of my blade a little closer to his throat. I could see the fear in his eyes. He was scared.. of me. He was use to this, people snapping and... and hurting him.

"Something tells me you grandfather wouldn't mind me cutting you if you attacked me." One of the first rules I learned with Slade was don't go picking fights with someone better than you. I look in the Damian's eyes told me he was given the same lesson.

"Then why don't you just kill me now." He said, I could feel his heart racing. He was scared, so scared. I drew my blade back, "out of respect for you grandfather." I said, I would let him think that his acted worked.

I remembered what it was like to be so scared to not dare show fear. Knowing the consequence for doing so might be deadly.

I walked away still looking around. Best for me to know my way around this place if thing were to go south. I walked outside to see the water that went on for miles. So we were on an island. Great...

I found my way back to the room with Ra's and Slade as they step out. "Perfect timing Renegade."

I followed Slade back to the room we were staying in. Finally I could figure out what all this was about. "So why are we here with Ra's? He killed you." I said causally.

"Because." Was all he responded with. "That's not really an answer." Slade turned on me.

"Since when have you need anymore reason then me telling you so. I had hoped that I have not been gone for so long you forgot all the manners I taught you. Maybe it's been too long since you've been punished."

He said till he was only a few inches away. Within striking distance. I felt my heart rate quicken. The punishment... I had never forgot those. I still had nightmares. My glare quickly fade and I lowered my eyes to the floor.

I fought to not show how I was trembling. I forgot what it was like to be threatened, Bruce never did that to me.

He lifted his hand and I felt myself flinch, but he didn't hit me, he just grabbed my shoulder. I glanced back up at him to his face had soften, "we must be here right now, I can not tell you why, so do not question it." "Yes sir." I said thankful he wasn't punishing me. I would have to be more careful.

What was so important that he couldn't tell me.? "I'm glad to see your alright." He said, then did something I would have never expected. He hugged me.

But just as quickly as he had started his stop. "Now tell me what has happened since I last saw you."

Third person POV

Slade knew that he had went too far when he threatened Renegade. He could see the fear on Dick's face.

Slade hadn't met to scare him. He just didn't want Dick to ask anymore questions he wasn't allowed to answer.

Slade had been so relieved when Renegade came with him. So glad to see that he was okay.

He hated himself for cause Dick to flinch. He could not forgive himself for what he did to Dick all those years ago. He had just been a kid.

He couldn't imagine himself doing something like that to him now. But Slade couldn't tell him that. Couldn't make Renegade think he had gone soft. First they had to finish their mission. Then he would make sure Dick knows, that he is not the same man that he once was.
